WHAT I SAW - COYOTES (2) VS SHARKS (3) 1/13/15
TYSON - "I scored a ton in practice".
HANZAL - Is now on IR. 4 is my guess for the number of weeks it is going to take for KORPY, OEL, STONE or RIEDER to catch him in assists. That is how valuable he is.
DOAN - Looked hurt late in the first and went off the ice into the locker room. DOAN did come back out to the ice late in the 1st. DOAN would later be in perfect position to score the COYOTES 2nd goal of the game in the 2nd period. It was DOAN's 10th of the season. He did have two wonky penalties. Wonky I tell you. He went back to the locker room about half way through the 3rd.
OZZY - I'll pull you up and push you right back in your place
I'll take you down and wipe that smile right off your face
I'll watch you break, you're mine to take, don't blink, you just might miss it!
It's all or nothing, nowhere left to run, are you ready for the last fight?
Get ready with the war cry!
Let me hear you scream like you want it!
Let me hear you yell like you mean it!
If you gotta, go down!
Go loud!
Go strong!
Go proud!
Go on!
Go hard or go home!
SUMMERS - Needs to open his eyes just a bit more when he is trying to clear the puck out of the zone. There were more than a few times where I saw him pass it directly to a SHARKS player trying to clear. One time he even cleared it from behind DUBNYK all the way out to NIEMI.
Z - Helped the SHARKS score two goals on DUBNYK tonight. One by being in the way, and one by deflecting the puck into the net. Nice job.
MC CONNELL - "And the SHARKS, just 8 shots in that first period'" Wait? Is 8...is that... is that good? Lemme... 3 X 8 = 24...yeah nevermind. They ended the game with 25 SOG.
BOEDS - Had a goal in the first that was probably more to CHIPS credit than BOEDS. CHIPS was crossing in front of the net where we'd normally see DOAN and HANZAL. BOEDS looked like he had his legs early trying to take the puck to the net a few times on his own. This team needs more of that. BOEDS agrees with me by the way..giving credit to CHIPS for his move in front of the net.
CREAMY SRIRACHA - Nope.
MURPHY - Was knocking people on their butts after the SHARKS scored to start the 2nd. Unfortunately not to long after that the SHARKS would take a 2 -1 lead. After that his game just tapered off.
MOSS - Had a few shifts where he was getting in front of the net tonight. To be honest up until recently, he's done so little offensively that I often confuse him with STONE.
COFFEE TONIGHT - French Vanilla with Almond Joy creamer. Yeah, you can thank me later.
CHIPS - had some spring in his step not letting the SHARKS just ease the puck out of the zone. I didn't see as much pinching as you'd expect for the pressure we were getting. CHIPS also got away with a high stick late in the second...fortunately no one will read this till after the game so.....
CRAYON - Belted a SHARK in the 2nd for what was probably his single biggest hit of the year. He also had his 13th assist of the year.
WALSH - Interviews by telling players what he thinks, then saying "right". Weird. I guess I really never noticed that before.
OEL - Leads the entire NHL in game winning goals. One of them was not tonight.
GAGNER - Had a great shot in the first on the PP but Niemi was up to the task. Early on Niemi was giving up rebounds like a someone you could pick up in the goalie isle at Fry's. In the 2nd he had another chance at a shot and completely messed it up on what would have been a sure goal. After that it pretty much looked like he just wasn't sure you can only score if you get it in the net.
REFS - Several clear penalties on the SHARKS were completely ignored around the 12 minute mark in the 3rd...I understand putting your whistles away, but if you are calling a hook just 3 minutes before that? Not going to hard on the refs here, we did get some breaks early in the game.
LESSIO - Showed some life, only 1 shot, but he has a lot of speed along the boards. I do like his game, but on the season the production is really low.
DUBNYK - was the victim of some bad tips. That last goal especially.
8 - The number of loses the COYOTES can have the rest and still have a shot at the playoffs according to sportclubstats.com.
