WHAT I SAW - COYOTES (3) VS JETS (4) 1/18/15
CAPSULES - COYOTES (16-24-5) currently 14 pts out of a playoff spot. WINNIPEG (25-14-8) currently holding the 5th spot in the WEST.
SMITH - On the first goal did not even look like he was aware there was a breakaway coming. Kind of one of those head-shaking goals. Even worse was the fact that we had it in their zone and VERMETTE and BOEDS were passing it as hard as they could to no one on two occasions in a row. In spite of all that SMITH finally locked it down after the 3rd goal and had a few monster saves in OT.
DEJA VU - At the end of the second we had the same exact score we had last night against MINNESOTA, only the JETS didn't have 1 MILLION shots on net. Suddenly the COYOTES however came like firing like freakin crazy hounds and tied up the game.
THAT CAMERA GUY - In between the benches. He looked more like he was part of the SWAT team than a photographer...what the?
MOSS - Well he did manage a shot on net tonight. Maybe time to really spend that extra time on the ice trying to figure out how to contribute.
CROMBEEN - Looked a little stunned in the 3rd at how much time and space he had to shoot. CROMBEEN does have a goal on the season, but I am starting to think it might have been an accident. He will beat the crap out of you though. I was kind of shocked he didn't jack someone up with as physical as this game got.
SAMUELSSON - had a strong game for the most part and I think he could be a big piece down the road, but STONE actually outplayed him tonight one time perfectly breaking up a 2 on 1 that on most nights for us is puck in the back of our net. STONE's only shot on our net was pretty solid, but SMITH made a good save. He did have a shot on the JETS net and it didn't go in either.
SUMMMERS - Rough night as him and KANE battled all night and finally almost had a knock down drag out fight...but then of course the refs decided that hockey should be like angry figure skating rather than hockey. Later he did crush a Jet which lead to more crazy hits.
OEL - Had another goal tonight. He is still lands in 2nd on the team in goals with 12.
MALONEY - Looks thoroughly frustrated.
GAGNE - Got hit by STUART from behind. It should have been a 1,000 minute PP, but instead we just got a minor in our favor. I can see a fine or suspension coming for STUART. GAGNE was okay in spite of how brutal the hit looked.
DOAN - Looked good to go tonight, but you would almost rather see him take more time if he is going to end up like Z who was out of the lineup again tonight. DOAN had a shot late in the 3rd that looked to be deflected twice before getting in the back of the net. RIEDER was credited with the goal. He did miss his shot in the shootout, but so did everyone else.
KORPY - Put one past PAVELEC and immediately threw down his stick probably just because he had forgotten what it was like to score and didn't think the stick was necessary after that.
TYSON - Must have heard the complaints about "juicy" rebounds. He is now calling things "crispy". So now we have "crispy" shots, crispy passes, crispy blocking" stuff is just crispy right now.
BYFUGLIEN - Had a meltdown with a about 110 seconds left after an obvious offsides call. Like flicking pucks out of refs hands and saying stuff your mom would hate and everything.
RIEDER - scored in the 3rd and had a shot to win the game, but it went wide in OT. I thought he had a good game, but you know...all those crispy passes that went past him.
SUB - I believe PAVELEC has an actual submarine on his mask.
VERMETTE - Was to cute with his shootout shot, but man that dude dominated on the faceoffs.
ROAD TRIP - The team is playing hard, and after ownership has decided to re-vamp, that is all we can ask for right now.
