WHAT I SAW - COYOTES (4) vs JETS (1) 1/8/14

WHAT I SAW - Coyotes (4) vs Jets (1) 1/8/14

CAPSULE - COYOTES 16-20-4 (11 pts out of a playoff spot). WINNIPEG 20-13-7 good enough for 8th in the West.

RIEDER - Drew a penalty early in the 1st that lead to the Coyotes 2nd goal. I know, I know, even typing this it doesn't seem real....2nd goal...in the 1st?

BOEDS - Scored the first goal of the night after a struggling a bit. It was laid out on a platter for him due to some really good passing on the 1st PP of the night. His 2nd goal of the night was just freakin sick. That is the guy we need. SPORTSCENTER just called...

OEL - Had a goal and an assist in the 1st 4 minutes of the game. He also had his head almost ripped off by a Jets player using an elbow to the head, but for some reason it only drew a minor?

DEFENSE - Early in the game Tippett was sending one winger out and letting just 4 players sit in on defense. It lead to at least 4 breakaways and seemed like it was letting SMITH see the  puck a bit easier. Against really offensive teams you want to probably go back to the pack mentality and let the goalie find the puck while keeping thier forwards out of the crease.

STONE - Roughed up Scheifele after he put his shoulder into SMITH after a shot on net. It was the second time in the 1st that the D had come to SMITH's defense. This may have happened only twice before tonight ALL SEASON. STONE didn't stop there, he was belting people
in the face all night.

THAT LITTLE KID - Was telling his sister what was up...and she was having none of it. Another little girl was pretending to eat her sisters hair. Because that is how kids roll.

DOAN - Had 2 assists in the 1st period. It turns out rumors of his demise at least for tonight are un-founded. Like the time they told us about all those furry little creatures that multiply  when they get wet. DOAN also almost killed a ref trying to clear it out of the zone in the 2nd, then later scored his 9th goal of the year on a 5 on 4 just after a 5 on 3 expired.

HOWLER - looks thinner in military fatigues.

SUMMERS - Was also not putting up with any crap tonight. WHEELER cross checked him in the back and didn't draw a penalty, but SUMMER did when he proceeded to throw down on WHEELER right after that.

YANDLE - He also had a wonky interference call made against him in the 2nd...
just for being where he should have been on defense. In the 2nd he jacked up a Jets player for going off on SMITH

MC MILLAN - Ripped a shot on PAVELEC hoping for a rebound or some sort of massive 5 hole mistake. This is the kind of thing that creates offensive rebounds which is something I rarely  saw attempted in the last game. MC MILLAN had a lot of energy tonight at times plowing through his own players to get the puck out of the defensive zone.

TYSON - Compaired defense to the game where you try to hit the gopher on the head. He later admitted it was a bad analogy, but I was dying laughing. Your damn right TYSON defense IS like the gopher game!

LESSIO - Needs to take a lot more shots. He had 2 shots in the 1st, but this guy is a goal scorer and he needs to shake off the NHL nerves. 0 shots in the 2nd and 3rd so apparently not reading my handy dandy tips.

THE RIVER - MC CONNELL calls GILA RIVER ARENA, THE RIVER. I dig that.

PP - The COYOTES look like they may not have practiced a 5 on 3 all season. 5 on 4 is a  completely different story.

1 MILLION - The number of goals the BLUES have in their last 3 games. Wait, that has nothing to do with anything.

SMITH - Plays better when he actually gets some scoring support. He has the 2nd lowest average number of goals scored in support in the entire league. THE....ENTIRE...LEAGUE. Added  the caps so that you could feel the drama. SMITH looked extremely solid tonight. Wait... you did feel the drama right?

ANIMALS - Might be the dumbest song to play at a hockey game ever. The one by Maroon 5.

HOW DARE YOU - The COYOTES played freakin pissed after the first 10 minutes in the 3rd after looking sluggish to start the period.

MURPHY - Took on 3 JETS in the 3rd on a PK and was able to get the puck. That is something other teams normally do to 3 of our guys.

PENALTIES - We need to clean this crap up. On a great night, this was the only clear negative. Aside from the fact that I have no creamer for my coffee.
