WHAT I SAW - Coyotes vs Blue Jackets 1/3/15
CAPSULE - Coyotes (14-19-4) 13th in the West 13pts out of the playoff picture.
Bluejackets (16-16-3) 12th in the East 9pts out of the playoff picture.
RIEDER - Had a really good chance on the PP in the 1st, but missed on a big rebound. It's been awhile since Rieder has put one past a disappointed goalie. Never mind...he must have read this and decided to score. Most nights he is seriously our opponents worst nightmare.
SMITH - Giving Dubnyk a rest, Tippett decided to go with the back up goalie tonight. I kid, I kid. In the 2nd period SMITH started to show signs of why he is not starting every night, but he didn't allow his usual 4 goals. Maybe it's the new mask.
CRAYON - was on a huge breakaway early and was clearly mugged and decapitated. Not a penalty in the NHL. Huh...
BLUE - Screen of death. For some reason my cable was out for several minutes in the 1st period. I think that is a sign I watched just too freakin much TV today.
DOAN - Was out on the PP tonight. I liked seeing him get the extra ice time, plus a good smart pass back to the D when he saw he didn't have a short handed shot. Unfortunately DOAN, VERMETTE and BOEDS all ended the game with a -1. That seems almost mathematically impossible. DOAN did pass up a few late chances opting to pass instead.
PK - You don't want to be on the PK against Columbus. All the do is score on the PP being the best team in the league at it. Yes...I am just as shocked as you.
OEL - Had a goal in the 2nd and a couple fans were so happy they just started kissing. Cause you know, that is how it goes when our team wins here in the desert. VERMETTE and OEL lead the team in goals with 10 each. Skille jacked OEL up late in the 2nd, but it was deemed a clean hit apparently. That wasn't enough for VITALE who pounded Skille in the face with his fists multiple times mid-way through the 3rd.
THAT GIRL IN THE GLASSES - Probably had a hard time getting her friend who is obviously a Steelers fan to go to the game tonight. They are playing the NFC WILD CARD game right now. Well - right as I am typing this anyway.
TYSON - "They are a really heavy team". You know, heavy as in just loaded with deep thinkers from the 70's.
CHIPS - had a solid game tonight with a goal and an assist. It would be awesome to see him and KORPY get it going on a more consistent basis. That is why for Christmas I sent them both "How To Rock The Rink" written by Tobias Reider. I wonder if they got it yet?
GAGNER - Is now passing without even looking. He just expects you to be there, because if he wasn't passing it to you, he would be there. Basically he is reading your mind. He also sometimes reads the other goalies mind and puts two in the net, like he did tonight.
YANDLE - Messed up a few offensive zone passes tonight breaking up our time in the offensive zone. To his credit he was better on the blue line as usual keeping the puck in especially in the 2nd period.
MOSS - Almost inadvertently scored tonight but suddenly gave up on the puck after driving to the net. After all, he doesn't want anyone taking his "least effective right winger" award.
COLUMBUS - has some gutsy D-men. Sometimes they commit a crap load of penalties, but they are also taking pucks in the ribs, in the face, in the toe, the throw sticks.
HANZAL - Had a nice little back hander for our 4th goal of the night. I am happy for Hanzal because he was working his butt off and wasn't getting rewarded.
BARROWAY - If you even think about moving this team. I will get ahold of the greatest director of all time (Michael Bay's cousins sisters former roomate) and make a movie about how you ruined every Coyotes fans life.
I will play the pissed off janitor who lives for the game, but never got respect from my boss because he's from Quebec. In all seriousness Barroway looked very emotionally invested. I hope he loves this team as much as we do.
GORMLEY - iced the puck twice to start the 3rd in about a 30 second span. Take that Blue Jackets.
6 - Is the number of goals it takes Columbus to pull their goalie. At that point they put in a goalie with a worse record than Mike Smith to stop the bleeding. The Predators apparently don't have a limit. The KINGS scored 6 on them and they just let Rinne suffer.
