WHAT I SAW - COYOTES (2) VS REDWINGS (3) 1/14/16

WHAT I SAW - COYOTES (2) VS REDWINGS (3) 1/14/16

CAPSULES : Coyotes 22-16-5 / Coming off wins against almost everyone in Canada and Tennessee, the Coyotes are 2nd in the Pacific.  Detroit 23-14-7 / I guess these guys are still really good and that is pretty annoying.

STONE - Should register his shot with the department of firearms.  His shot in the 3rd is still sailing towards Canada.  His late defensive play was incredible.

TIKHONOV - Was losing the race to the puck in almost every instance in the 1st period.  I could have sworn this guy was just a bit faster?

FLOYD - Doesn't believe he can get his taxes done for nothing.

OEL - All he does is put pucks in the net.

GROSSMANN - Now that I think about it, this might be the first time we included the 2nd N in his name.  He also probably got a call from every professional wrestling league on the planet after burying a Detroit forward in the 2nd.

RIEDER - Got called for embellishment.  What the?  I don't remember falling after getting hit like that being a penalty?  He later tried scoring a goal that went off DOAN's skate, so there you go.  Embellishment pfft.... To be fair...I thought DOAN could have been given interference on our 2nd goal.

THE GUY - Behind Blashill looked like someone just fed him 4 whole onions.

BOEDS - Was putting the puck on net like crazy tonight.  More of that.

WELCOME - To "MRAZEK Park"

RICHARDSON - Is quietly becoming a GORDON-like workhorse that helps this team win.

GARBAGE - A Detroit fan's comment on the Coyotes to me before tonight's game.  Shakes head.

THE PUCK - It's like a magnet TYSON says.

MARTINOOK - Starting to see that night after night, not only is he trying his guts out, but his speed is a real problem for opposing defenses.

Z - Had some great work on defense tonight.  Excellent 2nd efforts, and really frustrating the Redwings forwards.

CHIPS - The team as a whole is making smarter decisions now with the puck, but if CHIPS gets it he has been doing a really good job of not just icing the puck, but rather tapping it deep into the opposing zone.

DAHLBECK - Needs to start playing the puck out of the zone more like CHIPS.  He also wasn't helping DOMINGUE on DATSYUK's goal.  He did have a great hit very late in the game and GLENDENING is still on the bench thinking about his life right now.

DOMINGUE DYNASTY - If you want to score on DOMINGUE down low, you can almost forget about it.  He doesn't cheat off the post like SMITH.  I still love SMITH, but he really needs to be taking notes right now on positioning in the net.  One of the goals he allowed tonight was due to ABDELKADER laying
on his leg for a clear interference, but the refs didn't see it that way.

GORDON's - Alive!!!  Sorry...you have to have seen FLASH GORDON in the 80's to get that reference.  Yet another solid game from one of the hardest working Coyotes.

HANZAL - Not sure what he was doing laying on the ice late in the game, just kinda stealing pucks and breaking up plays I guess.

VERMETTE - Another rough night.  Tuesday it was passing the puck so hard it was ending up on the sticks of the opposing team after pinballing around the ice.  Tonight it's clutching the stick just a bit too hard and taking a bad penalty midway through the 3rd.

DOMI - After 3 goals on Tuesday night, didn't take his first shot on net until the 3rd period.   That isn't to say he didn't have a solid game.

DUKE - Had a pretty iffy penalty in the 3rd.  Kinda hoped to see more out of the HANZAL line.

DOAN - I am not sure if he hates anything, but if he does...its probably the REDWINGS.

POINTS - No loss is good, but this game could serve as a reminder not to get too confident.  Discipline late in games is still key.

UMM - I have a friend that showed up at the game...he seems to be a bit of a curse... I am just sayin'.
