WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (4) VS MAPLE LEAFS(2) 1/20/19
CAPSULES: The Coyotes feature the best Penalty Kill in the league
at 87.1%. The Leafs are the 6th highest scoring team in the league. John
Tavares is part of the problem, and he needs to knock it off, because right now
he’s 4th in goals for the entire league. Austin Mathews, however before
tonight only had 1 goal in his last 12 games (make that 13 games). Overall the Coyotes have pretty much owned the
Leafs in Toronto, about as much as they own the Blackhawks in Chicago.
VANCOUVER – Did not
participate in the “Coyotes need you to lose” program today. They are currently 4pts up on us when they had the perfect opportunity to just be 2 pts ahead of
us. Damn.
JODY JACKSON – Is
apparently getting better at cooking each and every day.
ANAHEIM – Did participate
in the “Coyotes need you to lose” program today. They are just 3pts up on us
right now. They are dropping like a two ton heavy thing in the standings.
GOLIGOSKI (33) –
Looked really confident tonight and registered an assist. I haven’t felt great
about his game lately, but tonight he seemed to be back on track.
OEL (23) – Had a
chance to clear the puck in the 1st and instead put a short pass to
another defensemen not looking at him, the turnover lead to a Toronto goal. I
don’t know if I saw him clear 1 puck out of the zone the entire night.
HINOSTROZA (13) –
Had a great shot to start the game, but Toronto’s goalie Anderson was ready. So
that didn’t pan out. I love the effort though. He had another epic steal late
in the 1st, but unfortunately sent the puck over the net completely.
GALCHENYUK (17) –
Looked fantastic in a charge to the net late in the 1st. Dude has
some pretty good moves. He needs to shoot more though, he finished the game with just 3 shots.
KEMPE (29) – Holy
Coyote what a move. Awesome goal in the 2nd.
GARLAND (83) –
Would take a shot from the parking lot if you gave him a stick and a puck.
ELLE FANNING –
The Coyotes are fanning on an in-ordinate amount of passes tonight.
ARCHIBALD – Will be
taking a few more lessons on scoring with your face after tonight’s game.
COUGH DROPS – Do not
use 30 sugar free cough drops in a day. Your stomach will have a LOT to say
about that.
KELLER (9) – Wow…that
shot was sick as heck. Oh, man. I love it when this kid gets it going
offensively.
McCONNELL –
Drinks the same coffee, they have at my work. Awesome!!!!!
UGGH – After 2
the Coyotes were 0/3 on the power play. That is going to cut into our 18th
best in the league Power Play numbers. Yeah – that’s sarcasm.
LYUBUSHKIN (46) –
Was like a rock tonight. Just seemed to overpower the Leafs forwards whenever
they came his direction. I love OEL, but
he might want to take some lessons on how to clear pucks out of the zone from
THE DANCING BEAR.
TAKE A PICTURE –
I have nothing against WEAL (10) but tonight was the first time I saw him take
a shot on net since coming over to the Coyotes. Overall WEAL had one of his
better games.
HINOSTRAZA (13) –
Really nice heads up play on the Coyotes 3rd goal. Banked it in off
Anderson. His effort and speed later in the period on a breakaway gave the
Coyotes a power play. His name also makes me want some pasta, with like, some
mushrooms and cheese sauce.
I DON’T CARE HOW MANY
ICY MOUNTAINS YOU SHOW ME – Coors Light smells disgusting.
CROUSE (67) – Was
on a breakaway and drew a penalty, but still ended up scoring on a spin-o-rama
type goal. Just one of so many players that were engaged tonight.
KUEMPER (35) –
Was MIND-BLOWING in net again tonight. Wow. Clearly someone is not intimidated
by other teams top players.
WRAP UP – The Coyotes
remain just 4pts out of a playoff spot. They have a tough test coming up with a
back to back Tuesday and Wednesday.
