WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (2) VS FLAMES (5) 2/18/19

WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (2) VS FLAMES (5) 2/18/19

CAPSULES - The Flames are 17-5-5 at home this season. In the first 2 games of the season, the Flames outscored the Coyotes 13 to 2 winning both games.

GARLAND (83) – Seemed a lot more engaged than he has the past couple of games. He actually lead the team in shots with 2 after 1 period with just 3 minutes and 37 seconds on the ice.  In the 2nd he put a puck past Smith (the Flames tender), to tie the game 1-1 at the time.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS – Gila River Hotels & Casino’s just came right out and said that their facilities are mine to bring down. I have never been given a hotel or a casino before. Wow…. this epic.  Kidding..kidding.

THE PA ANNOUNCER – For Calgary might be the most annoying in the league.

OEL (23) – Went to the locker room after crashing into the boards in the 2nd period. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, just an awkward crash. He was out of the game for about 36 seconds.

GALCHENYUK (17) – Other teams rue the day when he is on target. He had a nice assist to WEAL in the 2nd.

PICKARD (30) – Rough day. The 2nd shot of the game went by him putting the Flames up 1-0 in the 1st. He did settle down in the 1st and looked good for the rest of the period. He gave up 2 goals in the 2nd period, both of which I think were positioning issues. Not centering up on either. On the 4th goal rather than attacking the puck, PICKARD actually backed off the puck and the goal snuck in around him. Overall just a bad outing for him.

FIRST AMERICAN HOME WARRANTY PLAN – Yeah that is the funniest commercial I have seen in a while. There is nothing more hysterically hilarious than people dramatically ripping up home repair bills in slow motion.

LYUBUSHKIN (46) – Had a few strange plays in this one. One solid shot on net, but outside of that, I wasn’t seeing the strong effort when clearing the zone we normally see.

FIREFLY – My dog built herself a little blanket fort and has been hanging out in it most of the day. The high in Phoenix today was 55. The high in Calgary today was 9 degrees.

HJALMARSSON (4) – Had a bad turnover in the 3rd that led to Calgary’s 4th goal on the night. I won’t give him a hard time about this one, because these kinds of things form him are rare.  He is one of the teams, if not the teams best went it comes to blocked shots.

KELLER (9) – Didn’t register a shot on net in the first 2 periods. He did have a penalty in the 3rd, so there’s that.

IS THIS FOR WEAL (10) – Had some nice passes in the offensive zone. One lead to a hard shot from LYUBUSHKIN, no goal on the play, but this is this is more what we need from him. He also put a huge shot past Smith in the 2nd to tie the game up 2-2 on the PP.  It was WEAL’s first goal for the Coyotes. I have been on his case all year, but today was a solid step forward.

ARCHIBALD (45) – Made a huge defensive play in the second to keep Calgary from scoring their second goal at the time.

COUSINS (25) – Has been racking up the assists lately. Yet another one today on GARLAND’s goal.

KEMPE (29) – Not a good game for him. It seemed like every “important” pass he made, ended up on the stick of a Flamers player.  By important, I mean passes that could have led to a breakaway.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Had 3 shots on net after 2. More than the rest of the defensemen combined.

FISCHER (36) – Has registered just 1 point in his last 10 games. He does a lot of other things, but it would be nice to see some offense from him.

RICHARDSON (15) – Only 1 shot on net. He did have a collusion with OEL in the 3rd, both survived. No one had to file a claim with their insurance company.

CHYCHRUN (6) – Put a full blown body slam on one of the Flames players in the 3rd. Apparently that is not actually a penalty?

WRAP UP – This game would have been helpful for the Coyotes to win, but it’s not the end of the world. Worst case scenario, the Blackhawks win and move ahead of us. However nothing that happens at this point today will move the Coyotes further than 3pts out of a Wild Card spot. Tomorrow however is a huge day, they would benefit huge from a win over Edmonton.
