WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (2) VS MAPLE LEAFS (0) 2/16/19
HOW WE GOT HERE – Blah blah blah, backstory, goals, goals…..
The COYOTES started the night 5pts out of a Wild Card spot.
RICHARDSON (15) – You can feel having him back a second game
really adds stability in all zones. Nothing to write home about with his game
tonight, but man, he is needed down the stretch.
GALCHENYUK (17) – Is starting to get a little ridiculous in
regards to his goal scoring. A really nice tip in early in the 2nd
put the Coyotes up 1-0 at the time. The Coyotes had so much PK time in the 2nd
period that Alex said he got tired just watching it from the bench. He also
told Todd Walsh not to jinx the team. Kind of like the time Linda jinxed VAN
HALEN in The Wedding Singer. Yeah – you tell that dude Alex.
THE LEAFS – 1st unit PP is basically an ALL STAR
TEAM.
STEPAN (21) – I don’t know if it is possible for me to love
him as a player any more than I do.
COLORADO – Participated in the program tonight losing to St.
Louis. I will say they had a really gutsy effort in the 3rd, but it
was after St. Louis put up 2 goals in what seemed like 30 seconds. For the
record (The Program – is anything that helps the Coyotes efforts to get into
the playoffs).
THAT LADY – Behind Tocchet in the U.S.A. shirt just dancing
away.
FISCHER (36) – After 2, I was wondering why I had nothing
next to his name. Turns out he just wasn’t involved offensively. Zero shots and
just over 6 minutes of total ice time?
LYUBUSHKIN (46) – Had a very strong defensive night.
ARCHIBALD (45) – Had a breakaway in the 1st, but
sent the puck just wide. At the time it would have put the Coyotes up 1-0. In
fact the Coyotes had several great opportunities to score early in the 1st.
He wouldn’t miss in the 2nd taking a nice rebound off a shot by
STEPHAN. His goal put the Coyotes up 2-0 at the time. He also got high-sticked
on a potential goal for Toronto. After a review in the league office it was
determined the goal would not count.
GARLAND (83) – Had a quiet night most of the night, but a
great shift late on the PP. He did finally take a shot on net, but a lot of his
night was just lack of ice time like FISCHER.
THE OILERS – Are doing whatever they can to avoid making the
playoffs. Another loss tonight in a tight game that somehow ended up a 5-2
loss.
HJALMARSSON (4) – Love the effort tonight. He also logged
huge minutes. Like minutes so big you can almost see them from outer space.
WE AREN’T THE ONLY ONES – Watched the Colorado game earlier
today. They lost 3-0 and after the game all you heard was St. Louis Blues fans
going “Let’s Go Blues, Let’s Go Blues”. Now keep in mind, I was born in
Colorado, it’s a huge huge hockey state. So when you see other teams fans
showing up at GILA RIVER, don’t get too pissed. It happens all around the
league.
KELLER (9) – Didn’t have a single shot on goal in the 1st
period. That is extremely rare. Keller did have a wide open net in the 2nd
and had his shot narrowly blocked away by a Toronto player at the last second. From one angle it looked like he just missed
the net, but no…KELLER is too damn good to miss. KELLER then high sticked some
Toronto player as if to say …”how dare you block my shot”.
THAT CAT – No not KUEMPER, the on in the Temptations commercial, that jump…that can’t
be real. I feel like I’ve been… I’ve been….lied to.
CHYCHURUN (6) – Extremely solid night on defense. None of
the stuff that gets noticed on the score sheet, but nice passes out of the zone
and logging tons of ice time.
OEL (23) – Won the award again for the most time in the
penalty box. Nice.
NACHO LIES
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Had a late ripper that went off the post. I
think this happened because the Coyotes almost refuse to ever take a 3 goal
lead unless it’s an empty netter late.
DOWNTOWN – During the 1st intermission they were
coming back to the broadcast and showed a city. I was like “man, that looks
pretty hum-drum”. Turns out the city was Phoenix. Uggh. Lol. So moving forward
if they aren’t going to bother showing Glendale at least, why not just show
Tempe. There are some rad buildings over there.
OESTERLE (82) – Has a monster shot, but tonight it was his
pass that lead to a sick goal for Galchenyuk.
KUEMPER (35) – Had a fantastic night, but was really boosted
by a flawless defensive effort.
WRAP UP – Huge win against a top tier team. Lots still to
happen tonight. No matter who wins or loses though the Coyotes are just 3pts
out of a playoff spot. Once again the Coyotes have ruined Hockey Night In Canada and won in front of a national audience.
