WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (3) VS STARS (2) 2/9/19
CAPSULE – The Coyotes have not beaten the Stars since March
24th, 2016. Since then the Stars are 9-0-0 when playing the Coyotes.
Khudobin will be in goal for the Stars tonight since Ben Bishop is injured. I
would almost rather we were going against Bishop today in that we know how to
solve him scoring 4 goals against him on Monday. The Coyotes really need timely
scoring and a huge effort in goal today.
THE LEAD UP – The DUCKS stay at 51 pts. They have now lost 7
games straight, getting beat 6 – 2 by the Flyers. The AVALANCE lost in OT, so
they are now at 54 points. The WILD pushed
themselves out further ahead of the pack with a 4 – 2 win over the hapless
Devils. The WILD now have 59 points. The KINGS fought back after trailing by 2
goals in the 3rd, to get a point against Boston. They are also now
at 51 pts. The biggest game of the day
had the BLUES defeating the Predators. The worst part about that one was that
it put the nearest WILD CARD spot 6pt’s out to start the game today. Well, that
was until we won.
ANNOUNCERS – Apparently don’t know what time it is. The game
started at 2pm and yet everyone on the broadcast is referring to the game as if
it started at night.
KELLER INSTINCT (9) – Had the assist on the teams 3rd
goal after forcing a turnover. At the time it put the Coyotes up 3-0. This is
the kind of thing the Coyotes have lacked in the past 5 games.
WEAL (10) – Hmmm…. Not much to say. Terrible on D today, I
get that he’s not a defensive guy, but geez.
HINOSTROZA (13) – I would NOT trade HINOSTROZA.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Had a bomb for a shot that got passed the
Stars tender in the 1st period. I think Clinton was President the
last time the Coyotes scored on the Power Play.
PANIK (14) – Had a wide open shot in the 2nd and
ended up just finding a way to make the puck hit the goalie anyway. The good
news, is that he lead the team in shots after 2 with 5, so it’s not like the
effort wasn’t there.
WHY DON’T YOU JUST SAY SNOW CONE? – I don’t know, they call
it shaved ice.
GALCHENYUK (17) – Got punched in the back of the neck by
Polak leading to the Coyotes 2nd Power Play. They didn’t score on
the PP, but they looked really good moving the puck and put 5 shots on net. On
the teams 3rd Power Play he took a pass and ripped it past Khudobin
for the score. He wasn’t done there, in the 3rd he scored an even
strength goal. Man – this is the player I think we thought we were getting,
nice to see him getting it going.
STEPAN (21) – He is a
crazy calming force on the ice. Pretty solid in the faceoff circle. Especially
early in the game.
COUSINS (25) – Was put in a complete head-lock and taken
down to the ice by Benn, right in front of the ref in the 2nd, and
for whatever reason it didn’t draw a penalty. In spite of being in a wrestling
event today, COUSINS had 2 assists.
THE FLYERS – For some reason one of the fans at the game was
wearing a Flyers jersey? Why? Why?
DERMA SUCTION – Not exactly sure what to think about this
thing. I don’t know if I want to see the stuff that gets sucked out of my face?
CROUSE (67) – Put a bad hit on Polak drawing a penalty. It
wasn’t the worst I have seen, but the Coyotes don’t make blatant mistakes like
that often. I do love the fact that CROUSE doesn’t take any crap.
GARLAND (83) – Not one of his best games, but limited
mistakes and that is what the Coyotes needed today. We also finally took down our Christmas tree today. No Garland, just lights and ornaments.
LEXUS – Keeps telling me I can experience amazing. Do, I
just show up and start driving their cars around? How does that… how…does that
work?
HJALMARSSON (4) – Looked a lot more confident tonight
clearing the zone. It’s nice to see this guy not worried about passing when we
are up against a lot of o-zone time for the other team. He got called for a
garbage penalty in the 3rd, interference. Overall a great game for
him today.
CHYCHRUN (6) – You can see his impact defensively right
away. It’s nice to have him back on the ice.
OEL (23) – Got high-sticked and crosschecked, mugged, thrown
around like a rag doll, had his wallet stolen on the play before the final play
of the game and the refs didn’t bother calling a penalty. So naturally the
Captain and CONNAUTON were not having it.
KUEMPER (35) – Was beyond good in net. I will say that the
boys need to do a better job in front of him late in games. Dallas got into the
game with 2 late goals that never should have happened.
