WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (4) VS PANTHERS (3) SO 2/26/19
HINOSTROZA (13) – Got hit with a high-stick in the 2nd.
The refs apparently took most of this game off. No penalty called. Not just
that one. Literally 0 penalties in the first 39 minutes of the game. In the 3rd,
he did have a good drive in the offensive zone that drew a penalty…finally. He scored a disgusting goal in the shoot-out
to give the Coyotes the WIN.
STEPHAN UP TO THE TASK (21) – Scored a crazy goal right off
of Luongo’s glove in the 2nd. Nice heads up move from behind the net. The goal really
sparked the Coyotes mid-way through the 2nd. STEPHAN also led the team in shots on goal
with 3 after 2 periods. He scored the 3rd goal of the night short-handed
going right past former Coyote Yandle.
3 – The number of pipes the Coyotes hit on the final PP in
regulation.
THE WEAL DEAL – You all know this already, but he’s no
longer with the Coyotes.
RICHARDSON (15) – You can feel his game getting stronger as
the season moves along. 2 shots and a penalty tonight.
KUEMPER (35) – Another freaking stellar night. Simply
incredible in OT and in the shoot-out.
CHAYKA – Was saying “Damn, Damn” I think when they showed
him during the 2nd period. I think because right about that time the
WILD had scored their 2nd goal in less than a minute to take the
lead against the JETS 3-2. The WILD are one of the teams that we need to lose.
GALCHENYUK (17) – Had some really nice shots on net, but I
think he’s going to need some help with guys in front of the net. SO who wants
to have a chance of having a puck go right through their body? Kidding.
I DON’T – Think that artisan pizza is handcrafted by the
gods.
DVORAK (18) – Had a partial breakaway in the 1st
and put it wide of the net on the short side. You can see a bit of rust but it’s
wonderful to see him back out there. Overall a good first period back. He also
had a great chance on the Panthers goalie with a back hand that almost went 5
hole. Great effort.
COUSINS (25) – Scored
a nice goal in the shoot-out. In the face-off circle he was 6 of 8. Nice.
DOAN (19) – Had a super hard time even thinking about
writing during the last game and DOAN’s jersey retirement ceremony. Then all
those memories came right back with the guys mentioning DOAN again tonight. How
much of an impact did DOAN have….let’s just say the HURRICANES radio announcers
mentioned DOAN tonight as well. Yeah, no, I pretty much watch and listen to all
the hockey I can.
PAD THAI - if you eat Firey Thai Kettle chips after eating Pad Thai, you will get a pretty serious Fruity Pebbles taste. This is not a joke.
KEMPE (29) – Had a lot of energy tonight and helped draw a
penalty early in the 3rd. Unfortunately the 2nd PP did
not result in a goal. KEMPE also had really nice shot in the 3rd,
but could get it past Luongo.
THE GRAND CANYON – Just turned 100 (as a National Park), the
same exact age as the tartar sauce in my fridge.
ARCHIBALD (45) – Had an assist and a pretty solid game.
CROUSE (67) – Was on a 3-0 breakaway and put a pass behind
ARCHIBALD that led to the Coyotes not even getting a shot. In this case I
probably would have rather seen him just take the shot. The rest of his game
was loaded with effort.
TAC GLASSES – Supposedly these can help you see as sharp as
an eagle. Because you know, there are a ton of people with “eagle eyes” running
around that can totally verify that.
GARLAND (83) – Not sure what this says, but he had the
lowest total ice time after the 1st period.
HJALMARSSON (4) – Very solid game tonight. He’s be great.
CHYCHRUN (6) – Had a turnover in the 1st that
just kinda got away from him. It led to a breakaway for the Panthers in the 1st,
but KUEMPER was able to ruin any shot attempt.
OEL (23) – Looked really sold tonight. A good shot on net in
the 2nd and some really solid choices with the puck in the defensive
zone. He tipped in an epic goal on KELLER’s shot late in the 2nd.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Solid game overall. Logged monster minutes.
HAIR PULLING – I swear, if I had hair, all of it…I mean all
of it would have fallen out from the excitement and stress of tonight’s game.
OESTERLE (82) – Had a sick shot in the 1st overall
the save was pretty easy for the Panthers goalie with no one in front the net.
Early in this one the team had a lot of trouble just putting pucks on net. In
the 3rd he hit the pipe twice in 1 Power Play. Almost impossible,
but wow.
KELLER (9) – Looked really solid again tonight. He had the
assist on the PP goal and just looked really like a rejuvenated player. He did
have a turnover about mid-way through the 3rd that might have cost
us a PP goal as well.
ST. ELSEWHERE – The KINGS might be officially out of this
thing pretty soon. They took a pounding 6 to 1 against the CANES tonight. Oddly
the CANES have been one of the Coyotes biggest allies lately, they shut out the
STARS 3-0 a few days ago. The WILD stupidly beat the JETS who apparently just
decided to stop playing with 2 minutes to go in the game. The final in that one
was 3-2. It would have helped the Coyotes a little if the BLUES would have lost
tonight. They didn’t, but it would have been very very little help if they did.
Oddly a
GOLDEN KNIGHTS loss would have helped us more than a STARS loss, but whatever at least that game never got to OT.
GUTS – Damn, this team is just loaded with guts. If you know
the PANTHERS like I do, the fact that they pushed us to the bring is NOT a
surprise in the least. They do this a LOT. The Coyotes held their ground when
it looked bleak and did not fail. Not tonight. As much as it ticks us off that
some other teams won tonight, they have to be looking at the standings wonder
what they have to do to shake us off.
