IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (4) VS WILD (0) 3/31/19
KELLER (9) – Got hooked on his only really good chance of
the night.
HINOSTROZA (13) - Got the last goal of the game. Not a
hugely productive afternoon, but this guys is one of the heart and soul players
on this team.
PANIK AT THE HOCKEY RINK (14) – Got called for a penalty for
running into the Wild goalie. While trying to get away, DUBNYK held onto PANIK
leg like a pissed off cat. One of the strangest things I have seen in a while. PANIK
has looked great the past couple of games.
PK – Even after giving up 2 PP goals in the last game
against the Avs, the Coyotes PP is now #1 in the entire league.
RICHARDSON (15) – Gotta love his effort, but not much on the
score sheet. He was winning a few board battles though and that only helps.
GALCHENYUK (17) – On the 4th shot of the game for
the Coyotes he put a rebound from an OEL shot in 5 hole. It’s his 18th
on the season and it’s nice to see him back in the action offensively.
DVORAK (18) – Won 75% of his faceoffs. Can't knock that, because that and our Power Play have been awful at times. Well, actually the Power Play is awful all the time.
STEPAN (21) – Had 2 uncharacteristic turnovers in the 3rd.
He did have a decent 1st 2 periods. In the 2nd STEPAN had
the assist on the ARCHIBALD goal. He nearly had a goal over half way into the 3rd
on a partial break away.
NHL APP – If you want to hear something great. Watch the
highlights from the Avs vs Coyotes games on Friday up until the shootout
starts. Then turn it off. It should be the Avs announcers talking. They are
freaking though the entire thing about how great KUEMPER was. They sounded
ridiculously frustrated and afraid. Pretty great, not the outcome we wanted
overall, but picking up that point getting into OT was huge. Also not allowing
the Avs to collect on ROW. We are tied with them in that category now.
COUSINS (25) - Had
the an assist on the GALCHENYUK goal in the 1st.
GRABNER (40) – Got slashed on the had very early in the
game. No call on the play. He’s a hockey player, so he didn’t miss 3 weeks and
need re-hab. He got right back out on the ice.
WHY EVEN BOTHER WITH A FULL HEAD OF HAIR WHEN YOU CAN BE ….ARCHIBALD
(45)- Scored on sick break away off a pass from OESTERLE with less than a
minute to go in the 2nd putting the Coyotes up 2-0 at the time. This
goal was some nasty top cheese, pretty fantastic. ARCHIBALD put the WILD to bed
with a late empty netter goal on the WILD. It’s been awhile since the Coyotes
last scored 3 goals in a game. They scored 4 in this one.
CROUSE (67) - His game is coming around. You could see him
frustrating Wild players all afternoon. He did draw a penalty late in the 1st.
He did seem to be making some bad
decisions in the 2nd leading to turnover that ended up as shots on
net.
GARLAND (83) – Must have gone to DEFENSE camp when he was a
healthy scratch because he was nails late in the 2nd and early in
the 1st knocking pucks away and helping keep things out away from
the net.
SELL OUT – 3pts back of a playoffs spot with 4 games to go.
Everything is on the line.
HJALMARRSSON (4) – Got called for a penalty in the 1st
for doing almost nothing. I think it’s one of those plays where a Wild player
was on a breakaway and he slipped down on the ice after Nick barely touched
him, they decided to give Minnesota the benefit of the doubt.
OEL (23) – A huge reason that this team is even in the hunt
right now. Captain worthy.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Hard to pick on him too much for this game.
Especially with CONNAUTON losing his mind on every Wild player he saw today.
CONNAUTON (44) – Had a nice spin around shot in the 2nd
that lead to a nice rebound chance by GALCHENYUK. It’s good to see him getting
involved offensively. Lead the team in hits today with 9.
DEMERS (55) – Had an assist and 3 blocks.
SPIDER-HOWLER – It’s weird seeing Howler dressed up as
Spiderman.
OESTERLE (82) – Had yet another incredible game.
KUEMPER (35) – Has not allowed a goal at home for 2 straight
games. He is freakin phenomenal. Has been most of the year.
WRAP UP – The Avs have a game in hand on the Coyotes and sit
just 1pt above us in the standings. Ideally
the Avs will lose 2 of their remaining games and the Coyotes will win out.
Tomorrow will be a big test as the Avs roll into St. Louis for a bout with the
Blues. The Coyotes next challenge is Tuesday against the Kings. No games for
the Playoff Picture tonight. The Coyotes race boils down to must wins and a
little help from the teams playing Colorado.
