WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (1) VS LIGHTNING (4) 3/18/19

WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (1) VS LIGHTNING (4)  3/18/19

ARCHIBALD (45) – Had a crazy breakaway in the 1st and couldn’t have been any more open, maybe he was a bit shocked because he shot the puck right on the Lightning tender as if he was trying to hit him. Early in the 3rd, he lost sight of one of the Tampa players and they put in in the net against us. The Lightning are not a team where you can afford many mistakes.

HINOSTROZA (13) – Along with KELLER lead the team in shots on goal with 4 each. His effort late in the game almost tied this thing up at 2.

PANIK ROOM (14) – Stole a Lightning pass on in the Tampa zone that allowed for the Coyotes to get a KELLER shot on net. Pun intended.

RICHARDSON (15) – Tough game for him. The Coyotes had a PP late in the game and his turnover gave the Lightning a shot at the empty net which they nailed. Having said that, RICHARDSON was epic in the face-off circle and that helped the Coyotes stay in this one till very very late in the game. You could also argue that taking your goalie out at any time against Tampa is a pretty bad idea.

GALCHENYUK (17) – For some reason Tampa lost their mind when he tried to tip in the puck on a play in the 2nd. I get that Tampa felt justified but it made no sense at tall. Punches were thrown, comments were made. GALCHENYUK took an ill-advised hooking penalty with 11:10 left in the game. The Coyotes did kill that one off.

YOU GIVE HOCKEY A BAD NAME – “YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME” should be played at least once every hockey game. This evening was the first time I’ve heard that song at a hockey game in a long time.

HOLD THE DVORAK (18) – He logged a ton of time on the ice tonight. Overall I think this was a very solid game for him.

KEMPE (29) – Had a nice little move in front of the Lightning net, but couldn’t quite put in in the net on the play. He did draw a penalty.

GRABNER (40) – Had a breakaway in the 1st and just lost the puck off his stick before getting a good shot off.  In the 2nd he was headed down the ice in a race for the puck he would have one. For some reason the refs gave the Coyotes an icing call? Pretty hilarious. If that’s the new rule every  offensive play is icing.

BEYOND FAMOUS – Has anyone tried a Beyond Famous star from Carl’s Jr? I am trying to reduce my beef intake and those look pretty good.

GARLAND (83) – Has been firing the puck like crazy in the first 2 periods. Only 2 of the shots ended up on net, but it’s nice to see him back in the line-up.

HJALMARSSON (4) – Another very solid game for him. I would have liked to see the entire defense get the puck out even more and quicker, but it’s not like they weren’t playing the best team in the league, they were.

SIDE EFFECTS – I wish not every single prescription drug didn’t  have to tell you that you might die if you took it. It’s like…this product is great for coughs…but you might die.

CHYCHRUN (6) – Missed a wide open net with 1:36 to go in the 3rd that could have tied it up. That was the game right there.

OEL (23) – Only one shot on net tonight. I think he could have taken a few more, but an absolutely solid top notch defensive night for him.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – All around it was a good night for the D. 2 Blocks, 2 Shots, 2 Hits for GOLIGOSKI .

TUCSON ROADRUNNERS – Going to see my first road runners game on Wednesday. I am not crazy about the face/eye area on the Roadrunners 3rd jersey, it looks just as wonky as the face on the Coyotes kachina jersey.  Having said that I will probably buy one at some point. No Todd, I am not buying you a hat for your garage dude.

TRAGIC NUMBER – So far Detroit, Ottawa and New Jersey have all been eliminated from playoff contention due to not having enough points to gain a playoff spot.

KELLER INSTINCT (9) – Scored the first goal of the night burying one against the Tampa goalie. I was just talking about him earlier today hoping we’d see more offense out of him. Not assists…goals. Well there I go. Now I can shut my pie hole about that.

OESTERLE (82) – Lead the team in blocks this evening with 3.

KUEMPER (35) – Only allowed 2 goals tonight. The last 2 goals were empty netters. He is going to need more goal support than that if this team plans on making the playoffs.

WRAP UP – With just 9 games to go the room for error for the Coyotes might be 2 or 3 more losses tops. The good news is that the Coyotes have 2 days to regroup. The Coyotes have a possible 18 points left to get on the season which means they have a possibility of getting 96. The Coyotes currently have 78 pts and for the moment remain 1 point ahead of the WILD for a Wild Card spot.

Well in the past 2 games the Blackhawks have managed to gain 2 pts on the Coyotes in the Wild Card race. Even though they lost tonight they did gain a point getting to OT. So the gap is now 4 pts between them and the Coyotes. The good news is...the Blackhawks have a tough road ahead and if tonight was an indicator of what's to come.

The Golden Knights are now annoyingly 8 pts ahead of the Coyotes now and own the 3rd spot in the Pacific Division, which is a playoff spot I am not sure the Coyotes want depending on the match-up. None the less, it's one of the teams they are chasing and it's always better if they lose.
