WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (2) VS FLAMES (0) 3/7/19
PLAYOFF PICTURE – EARLY GAMES
WILD (3) VS LIGHTNING (0) – There is something to be said for teams with
lock down defense this time of year. Damn, this would have been a game where it
was nice to see the WILD go down. This game also goes to show you, the demise
of the Western Conference this year is extremely pre-mature. The WILD are now at 74 points. They are
probably due for a losing streak now.
AVALANCHE (0) VS
STARS (4) – All I can say about this game is the AVALANCHE looked
totally over matched. Oddly for the COYOTES this was a good result. Matchup
wise DALLAS will have some games later that could negate the effectiveness of
the points they got tonight. They are at 75 pts. The Avs are at 70 and we have
a game in hand on them.
SABRES (4) VS BLACKHAWKS (5) SO – Well the 3rd
goal for the Blackhawks in this one was scored by Buffalo. So that’s the Sabres
for you. The announcer for the game actually said during the game “I don’t
think either of these teams wants to win this game.” It ended up going to the
Shoot Out. The Buffalo tender didn’t stop a single shot and the Blackshawks
picked up 2 pts. They are now at
WARM UP – Love those jersey’s. Not as good as our regular
jersey’s but pretty sweet. Why is Jodi Jackson taking up all of GRABNER’s
pre-skate time?
KELLER INSTINCT (9) – Put a puck past Mike Smith (our former
outspoken goalie) in the 1st, for the team first marker of the game.
He had a crazy breakaway in the 3rd but just lost control and ended
up in the 3rd row. Just kidding. …it was the 10th row. If
not for a Calgary defensemen, the puck would have rolled right into the net. KELLER
has good nights, we need consistency down the stretch.
HINOSTROZA (13) – Had a breakaway in the 3rd, but
got tripped up by a Calgary defensemen. The play resulted in a penalty shot
that he missed just outside. Having said that, a miss is very rare for Vinny.
He is almost always money in shootouts.
PANIK (14) – Took no garbage from Calgary ad GOLIGOSKI and
others were getting into it as the Coyotes just frustrated the crap out of the
Flames.
RICHARDSON (15) – Had a nice solid game. Just 1 shot on net,
but he did a lot of the things that you need going to do.
GALCHENYUK (17) – Had a sick move to the net in the first
and almost put it in the net. His skating charges at the goalie are the stuff
of legend. I do think he’s due for a huge game here soon.
DVORAK (18) – Had an assist on Keller’s goal in the 1st.
He also practically laid down on the Calgary goal tender trying to punch in a
goal in the 1st.
COUSINS (25) – I think everyone played well, but if I had to
pick someone that I wish had a better game it would be COUSINS. Keep in mind,
his game wasn’t bad, but we need to be hearing his name more when he’s not
going to the penalty box.
KEMPE (29) – Looked really good tonight. He had a nice drive
to the net in the 2nd, but hit the post. I am not sure if he was one
of the guys called out after the Ducks but he looks like he thought is was
about him.
IT MIGHT BE RISKY – But I am trying the Kroger brand Delux
Mac & Cheese for second dinner tonight. That’s right kids…second dinner.
FISCHER (36) – Logged
a good amount of time on the ice tonight. He also led the team in hits with 5.
GRABNER (40) – Did he drink some sort of energy drink before
the game? He looked incredible early on. 4 shots on net barely into the 2nd.
He did miss an empty netter in the 3rd,
but looked great all night.
ARCHIBALD (45) – Got called for embellishment in the 3rd.
One of the worst calls I have seen in a few days. Fortunately ARCHIBALD also
drew a penalty on the same play.
CROUSE (67) – Got the best “fan on a one timer” of the game
award. He accomplished this in the 3rd period. Nice job. He also had
2 blocks.
CHICKEN TENDER – Calgary pulled their goalie with 4:36 to go
in the 3rd. What the heck, only the Avs are allowed to pull that
crap.
HJALMARSSON (4) – Had some rare turnovers in the 2nd,
one of them almost lead to a goal.
CHYCHRUN (6) – Had an assist in the 1st. He then
scored in the 3rd, which came after a challenge from Calgary on the
play because a Flames player got knocked a bit into the goalie, but it did look
like he was going to jump to try and make the save anyway.
OEL (23) – Shaved. Oh, and also had a great game.
RATTLE THE POTS AND PANS – Turn on the AC and fans. I don’t ….let’s
just go with it.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Solid game.
SONIC – Has an oreo cone? Bloody hell, where have I been?
DEMERS SOME FINE HOCKEY PLAYING (55) – Is like a clinic on how to clear the zone on
the PIK. Nice clear in the 3rd. He also logged 6 blocks.
OESTERLE (82) – I sing his praises a lot on this blog, but
his first night back has been iffy at best. I think he missed just the 1 game. Not
as
KUEMPER (35) – Was outstanding, completely shutting down the
Flames all night. I will say this about KUEMPER, he does seem to bounce back
really well after a loss.
PLAYOFF PICTURE – LATE GAME
CANUCKS (2) VS OILERS (3) – Apparently no one told the
Oilers their season was over. They have 4 wins in a row now. They are at 67
points. The Canucks are at 65 with Chicago.
WRAP UP – Was this a must win? Well before the game I would
have said “NO”. However after the game, due to the fact that the Wild won again
and the Stars won, this win for us keeps the Coyotes on pace. It also showed
the team they can compete with anyone….they just need to rise to the occasion
on nights they are playing teams the thing they should beat. At this time of
year you need to treat every game like it’s the playoffs. The Coyotes are 3pts out of a WILD CARD spot
right now. At some point some of these other teams are going to come to town
and the Coyotes will need to take them down.
