WHAT I SAW : COYOTES (3) VS REDWINGS (1) 3/2/19

TYSON – I always think it’s hilarious when he tells other teams what can’t happen. You tell em’ TYSON.

HINOSTROZA (13) – Got robbed of a goal in the 1st period. Like basically they came into his house, stole the puck and put it in a safe deposit box somewhere. HINOSTROZA wasn’t having any of it. Late in the 1s the had an incredible assist to OEL for the 2nd goal of the night. He’s got 5 pts in the last 2 games. He did score a goal in the 3rd period, but it was all very odd. The goal horn dude thought the Coyotes scored and the horn went off, but the goal didn’t come till after the horn a few seconds later. Detroit lost their damn minds because they apparently thought the whistle had blown or something prior to the real goal. Bertuzzi even broke his stick over their net.

PANIK ROOM (14) – Had 2 assists on the night. A pretty solid game for him.

RICHARDSON (15) – Also had an assist and almost had his 5th goal in 2 games with a shot that almost found the net with about 8:25 to go in the game.

UNBELIEVEABLE – A Coyotes and Redwsings couple right behind Tocc. Are you kidding me…how does that even happen?

KELLER (9) – His tooth guard is absolutely useless. Most of the time it’s barely hanging there….just doing nothing. I don’t know if someone said something to him after the Canucks, game, but he was firing the puck early. He lead the team in shots after 2, with 5. He looked good out there tonight.

GALCHENYUK (17) – Not his best night, but no major mistakes and just like every other player tonight, the effort was there.

DVORAK (18) – Got sent flying into the net in follow up to a breakaway. The fact that he got right back up is a great sign.

COUSINS (25) – Nearly had a goal on an offensive surge by the Coyotes late in the 2nd. Overall a good game for him, but just one shot on net after 2. Finished the game with 3.

KEMPE (29) – Is not afraid to take a penalty. Sometimes when he does, the other team scores…like tonight. He had a great run at the net in the 2nd, but couldn’t put it past Howard due to running out of real estate.

FISCHER (36) – Was playing like a dude pissed he’s been a healthy scratch. Two really solid drives to the net in the 2nd, nice to see a little fire out of him. 4 shots after 2 periods for him.

ARCHIBALD (45) – Scored a goal in the 1st. From the original angle, it looked like it went right through Howard’s (the Redwings goalie) body. Like a little volcanic super-hero that can phase through things.

CROUSE (67) – Had a wide open shot on net in the 3rd and couldn’t put it in after a flurry of shots on the shift.

GARLAND (83) – His minutes were way down after 1 period. He did manage to clear the puck in the 2nd when the Redwings were down in the offensive zone. The key part here was that at the moment there was a log jam in front of our net, and GARLAND was the only one who seemed to know where the puck was. At one point in the game GARLAND was 5 for 5 in the face-off circle. Whatever they are paying him, he’s worth more than that. He single handedly held the puck in the Detroit zone late in the game for a minute.

HJALMARSSON (4) – Another outstanding game. He also had an assist.

CHYCHRUN (6) – Got in an almost fight. It turns out the NHL was only allowing fights in St. Louis tonight or something like that.

OEL (23) – Scored his 9th goal of the season deep into the 1st period. It was a rocket from downtown on a great pass from HINOSTROZA. RICHARDSON also tipped in the rebound after the puck went in, just to make sure.  He got in a collusion in the 2nd period, but was able to get back on the ice after apparently just shaking whatever happened off.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Guts and glory.

CONNAUTON, THE TOUCH, THE FEEL, THE FABRIC OF OUR LIVES (44) – He jack stomped some Detroit player over the boards in the 2nd so hard his mom felt it. I think that dude is somewhere in Tolleson right now.

OESTERLE (82) – Solid night. Just one bomb from downtown shot wise. It didn’t hit the net, but I am a big fan of that.

KUEMPER (35) – His Saturday night alternate home helmet it probably the worst in the league. He looked just freakin great again tonight. Just 1 goal allowed. He is now 15-3-3 in 2019.

OVERHEARD – From LA Kings Live. “I Love The Coyotes, they’ve come a long way.” – Derek Armstrong

MARTINOOK – Got knocked out by Evander Holyfield last night after the
HURRICANES game against ST. LOUIS. Pretty awesome. I miss MARTINOOK as a Coyotes player, but I am glad he’s having fun and playing for my second favorite team, the CAROLINA HURRICANES. By the way, this love affair I have with the CANES didn’t start this year. I have always been a fan, but prior to the move to CAROLINA I grew up loving the HARTFORD WHALERS (still the most popular NHL team that isn’t around anymore). This was well before the Coyotes came to town and changed all of our hockey lives.

PLAYOFF WATCH – OILERS  4 – BLUEJACKETS  0. Apparently the Bluejackets don’t really care if they maintain a WILD CARD spot in the East. The OILERS ended the game with 63 pts. They now have 2 wins in a row after getting crushed by TORONTO earlier in the week.

KINGS 6 – BLACKHAWKS 3.  Well, I can say that both goalies had an assist (which is probably pretty rare in a single game) but otherwise looked absolutely terrible. Down go the Blackhawks…down go the Blackhawks.  They stay at 63 pts. Along with the OILERS.

BLUES 1 – STARS 4. This one was a knock-down, drag out, fight night. The Blues seem to suck on nights the Coyotes would have benefitted from them winning. Dallas is at 71 pts, but they might want to hold on to their hats.

FLAMES 2 – WILD 4 . I liked Smith when he was here...but why the theatrics. He makes a save and falls over like he got shot. This was one of the worst games I have seen the Flames play all year. This puts the WILD back ahead of the Coyotes by a point after the Coyotes win earlier tonight.

WRAP UP - When you are in a dog fight for the playoffs, I prefer to bring a pack of COYOTES. They are still 1 point out but this team is breathing down the necks of the GOLDEN KNIGHTS, STARS and WILD.
