IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : HURRICANES (0) VS CAPITALS (6) 4/20/19

WELL HE'S NOT WRONG - CANES Coach Brind’Amour couldn't be more right with his post game comments on this FOEGELE hit on Oshie in Game 4. Watching the Sharks Knights series. They are basically murdering each other every time down the ice. Every other play is a huge fight. No one is even talking about how crazy that series is and how many cross checking, crazy slashing plays, tripping, hitting dudes in the boards. It's a freakin war. None of these series are getting called like things were in the regular season. Foegele is a clean player, he made a stupid play and unfortunately Oshie was hurt. But if Foegele needs to be suspended, so does every single player on both the Sharks and Knights teams.I didn't hear anyone on the Canes team calling for an Ovechkin suspension. Also not hearing Caps fans pointing out that the Caps were beaten 5-0 after knocking out Svechnikov (one of the Canes best players). That all happened when the Caps had their full compliment of players. I hope Oshie recovers fast, but the fact remains, no one would even be talking about this if Oshie had been fine. The hit would have been a normal stupid playoff type hit going on in every other series.

MAENALANEN (8) – Drew the CAPS first penalty in the 1st period. WALLMARK kinda screwed up the momentum on the PP for the CANES by taking a high-sticking penalty.

STAAL (11) – Logged decent minutes on the ice, but was part of an anemic power play that never got the team into the game when they were only down 1-0 in the 2nd.

FOEGELE (13) – Made a huge mistake late in the 3rd period and instead of dumping the puck in on a CANES  line change, he tried a blind pass that lead to a Caps breakaway and their 2nd goal of the game. Not the kind of mistake you can make in a tight game where the CANES had 3 Power Plays in the 2nd and could not score.

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT – What, that there’s a lobster in our hot tub?

WILLIAMS (14) – Did not establish himself in this one. Just one shot on goal.

SAARELA (15) – An almost invisible 9 minutes on the ice. Not the cool kind of invisible either. The Drax from Guardians Of The Galaxy invisible.

THE CAPS – Have by far the worst main logo in the league.

AHO (20) – Couldn’t quite put it past Holtby on a good rebound chance in the 2nd. AHO wasn’t without a strong effort tonight. He had taken 7 of the teams 21 shots through 2 periods.

NIEDERREITER (21) – Not a great game for him.

McGINN (23) – Registered 3 shots on goal, but not much else.

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU (36) – Lead the team in hits with 8.

McKEGG (42) – Got jacked up along the boards by a Caps player in the first. Overall I know the CANES were trying to avoid penalties, but they were not hitting nearly enough in the 1st period.

WALLMARK (71)  His high-sticking penalty in the 1st period led to a Caps goal. He then took another penalty in the3rd that led to yet another Caps goal making the score 6-0 at the time.

TERAVAINEN (85) – 3 shots on goal. Probably his worst game of the series so far.

HAMILTON (19) – Not sure what was going on late in the 2nd. He had Ovechkin beat to the puck but slowed up and let him get to the puck. He then made a pass that lead to the Caps 3rd goal.

SIX – The number of shots the CANES had on goal in the 1st period. That isn’t going to cut it in most games.

PESCE (22) – Not a great game for him tonight.

FAULK (27)   3 shot, 2 hits and 2 blocks. He also logged the 2nd most minutes of any of the defensemen.

DeHAAN (44) – Got lifted off of the ice with a high hit from a Caps player in the 2nd. It drew a penalty on the Caps. DeHAAN left the ice after the play.

VAN RIEMSDYK (57) – His speed is super helpful in the defensive zone. He has done a really good job of frustrating the Caps offense early in this game.

SLAVIN (74)- Had a mostly solid game as usual, but the team around him tonight did not come through.

MRAZEK (34) – Was badly off his game in the 2nd. He allowed 2 goals on 3 shots at one point. 6 goals got past him overall.

WRAP UP – This was a bad game overall for the CANES. They had almost no intensity after mid-way through the second period. Time for the CANES to regroup and give a lot better effort at home on Monday night.
