IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : HURRICANES (1) VS ISLANDERS (0) 4/26/19

MAENALANEN (8) Decent game for him.

STAAL (11) Scored the winning goal in OT. No big deal. Just STAAL doing STAAL things. All this after spending 4 minutes in the box during regulation.

FOEGELE (13) Average game for him.

WHAT THE FACEOFF – The Islanders had a 61%  face-off percentage. I think the CANES are pretty thankful they have a ton of speed to make up for hardly ever starting out with the puck.

WILLIAMS (14) – Had 3 shots on net. One of his best chances was saved by an Islanders defensemen on a wide open net.

AHO (20)  Might be something going on with him. He wasn’t taking face-offs.

NIEDERREITER (21)  Lead the team in shots on net with 4 after 2 periods. He also shot them with 100% inaccuracy as far as getting them past the Islanders net minder. He also had one of the assists on the only goal of the entire game.

McGINN (23)  Spent a little time visiting the penalty box.

BROWN (36)  Crickets.

THAT’S WHAT IT TAKES BABY – Pie! …..     Pie’s coming.

McKEGG (42) –. Average. A lot of this stuff is likely fatigue from the double OT seven game series that just ended 2 nights ago.

BISHOP (64) – Below Average.

NOT QUITE – With just over 4 minutes to go in the 3rd, everyone thought the Islanders had a goal, but it just hit the outside of the net and got stuck in between the plastic on the outer rim and the net.

WALLMARK (71) – Just a so-so game tonight.

TERAVAINEN (86) – Good night overall, but nothing special.

HAMILTON (19) Almost had a penalty late in the 3rd, but a lofted puck that would have gone for a delay of game penalty landed in the Islanders bench.
HAMILTON is a great offensive weapon, but defensively he’s a bit of a liability. Like having a cat as a watch dog.

PESCE (22) A  good night for him. Not just defensively but also getting an assist on the only goal of the game.

FAULK (27)  Good night for him. Not only in the shots taken part of the game, but also laying down some huge hits.

NO POTATO – The Islanders had a goal waived off in the 2nd period on a clear interference penalty.

De HAAN (44) – Defense was solid tonight. 5 hits, gotta love it.

VAN RIEMSDYK (57) – Decent game.

SLAVIN (74) – An average night for him.

MRAZEK (34) Caught a shot to the throat at the start of the 3rd, but made the stop anyway. Of course the Islanders DJ decided to play “Crazy Train” right after that before the puck was dropped for the game to continue. He was ridiculous in net all night.

WRAP UP – I have never heard announcers sound so completely disappointed after a team won in overtime. NBCSN showing it’s true colors all week long. I said on my facebook page before the last series that the CANES would win their last series in 7. I haven't really even had time to think about this one yet. The way to win for the CANES is to play this team with better defense than they have. The Islanders defense is incredible.
