IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : HURRICANES (2) VS CAPITALS (4)
4/11/19
INTRO - This is normally a Coyotes blog but as long as the CANES are in the playoffs I will try and cover each game on the blog. The CANES are my second favorite team and I am very excited for this post season.
STAAL (11) – I would like to see him get going. I know AHO
is likely the key, but I would love to see him start racking up the points.
FOEGELE (13) – 2 hits
and a shot on goal.
WILLIAMS (14) – Did everything but score.
AHO (20) – Kind of wonder if he’s got an un-disclosed injury
because he is not the same guy he was early in the season.
SHOT BLOCKING MACHINE – Apparently the Caps have one
according to the USA Network broadcast announcer. Where can you buy those?
NIEDERREITER (21) – He’s had better nights.
NOW AND MCGINN (23) – I think I would like him to shoot more
even though the rest of the team usually has no issue putting pucks on net. Not
much on the stat line for him tonight, and I don’t think I heard his name even
once.
PP – The CANES had 3 Power Plays and couldn’t score. Lots of
teams have this issue, but this is something they will need to have change if
they want to keep up as the series moves along.
SESAME AND GINGER – Sorry Subway, but that sounds gross.
SVECHINIKOV (37) – Did not disappoint. This dude scored his
first two goals of the postseason for the CANES a little over 2 minutes apart.
The first one was flat out sick.
DEFENSE – The Caps went for long periods of time in this
game without shots on net. Their first shot on net didn’t come until the 10:26
mark. Unfortunately their 2nd shot went in the back of the CANES
net.
MCKEGG (42) – Seems to have a real problem loosing face-offs.
He was 100% in the circle tonight.
MARTINOOK (48) – Man this dude is good. No goals tonight but
he tied FAULK and FERLAND in hits with 6 each. The best numbers for the team
tonight.
WALLMARK (48) – Save money, live better. 2 pretty fantastic assists on the night.
FERLAND (79) – 6 hits…yeah we will take that.
WEEDS - Are a relentless evil. Kill em all!!!!!!!!!
TERAVAINEN (86) – Needs to take more than one shot on net. I
don’t even care if it’s just in practice.
18 – The number of shots the Caps had the entire game.
FLEURY (4) – Logged the least amount of ice time of any
CANES player tonight.
HAMILTON (19) – Was on fire in the first period battling the
Caps offense with SLAVIN.
SHRIMP ALFREDO – and pasta was on my menu tonight.
WHAT THE FAULK (27) – Had an early high-sticking penalty on
Ovechkin which unfortunately lead to the
Caps 2nd goal in the 1st. Outside of that his effort was outstanding tonight. Him and AHO lead the
team in ice time among skaters.
VAN RIEMSDYK (57) -
Solid effort overall.
SLAVIN (74) – Very nice game after things settled down.
MRAZEK (34) – After the first period was beyond stellar. I
would keep him in for game 2. He seems to understand the pressure now. Oddly it
might help if the team let him see a few more shots earlier in the game.
WRAP UP – You don’t have a series till the home team loses
OR it’s game 7 and we have reached the point of do or die. The CANES owned the
CAPS most of this game. MRAZEK recovered after allowing 3 goals in the 1st.
This tells me the CANES know what’s coming. It will take them getting to
another level to push this series along. Their coach knows exactly how to get
that out of his team. At least I think he does. I haven’t asked him or
anything.
