IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : HURRICANES (3) VS CAPITALS (4) OT  4/13/19

MAENALANEN (8) – Not an overly good game for him. Not a bad one either.

STAAL (11) – Didn’t really get it going until the 3rd with a few good shots. He did however draw a high-sticking penalty  late in the 3rd. On that PP he tipped in a shot by HAMILTON to tie the score at 3-3. If he gets going it will be huge for the CANES.

JR – Is right about allowing a replay for the refs if you are going to toss someone from the game.

FOEGELE (13) – Just one shot on the night. That is not good enough in a playoff series.

WILLIAMS (14)   Had a great chance in the 3rd but Holtby was square to the puck and ruined it.  He took another shot a short time later that ended up in a rebound that AHO buried.  He also lead the team in shots with 4 after 2 periods.

AHO (20) – Scored off the back of the Caps goalie's skate from an odd angle tying the game at 2-2 at the time. The shot came off the rebound I just mentioned for Justin.

NIEDERREITER (21) – Had a shot in the 3rd that ended up hitting one of our guys.

NOT SO GREAT 8 – Ovechkin jumped off his skates to hit a CANES player in the face with his shoulder. I guess that only gets you 2 minutes in the box in the playoffs.

MCGINN (23) – Played a lot of a PK in the 2nd with no stick. He almost got it out of the zone with his glove.

SVECHNIKOV (37) – Almost had a back hander for a goal in the 3rd, but it just missed the net.

MARTINOOK (48) – Played almost an entire shift with his helmet off…so there’s that. Almost had a shorty in the 2nd period but just couldn’t quite coral the puck on the play. MARTINOOK is also a former COYOTES player…which just makes him better than most people.

ALMOST - That word just keeps coming up...

ROAD TRIP – This Montana commercial is making me want to move to Montana.

WALLMARK (71) – His goal was pretty nice, but Holtby did some kind of weird spin-o-rama in the blue paint after barely getting grazed by one of the CANES players. So I don’t know if that is some kind of new helicopter goalie technique or what? Anyway the marker made it 1-2 Caps at the time.

FERLAND (79) – Took a hooking penalty a minute and 11 seconds into the 2nd period. For almost no reason. Fortunately the CANES were able to kill that one off. He later crushed Dowd of the Caps to draw a 5 minute major. There was no hit to the head here, so the fact that it drew a 5 match penalty for FERLAND was insane. Not really sure what got under FERLAND skin, but he had clearly had it. The CANES were able to kill off the penalty.

TERAVAINEN (86) – Logged a bunch of minutes but had a pretty quiet day.

FLEURY (4)- Only 4:22 on the ice today?

I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING – That spot with the Caps fans so excited to see the Stanley Cup up close. So emotional. I can’t stand the Caps, but wow… the Holy Grail of sports and they got to touch it. So awesome.

HAMILTON (19) – Had an odd elbowing penalty midway through the 2nd. I am guessing that was brought on by shenanigans going on behind the play prior to the penalty. Unfortunately it’s likely that after the league reviews the play, HAMILTON will get a 1 game suspension.

VAN RIEMSDYK (57) – Took a dumb penalty in the 1st when the CANES were down 1-0. In his defense, the penalty was pretty light considering all the absolute murders going on during all the playoffs so far this season that haven’t been called.

KFC – If they were really brave, they would have those freakin chicken and waffles available all year.

SLAVIN (74) – Had a really good game today.

MRAZEK (34) – Took a hard shot right in the mind and still made the save in the 2nd. It ws pretty classy of the Caps fans to cheer after finding out he was okay and would continue.  He also had a save with about a second to go in the 3rd that was pretty stellar and sent the game to OT.

WRAP UP – You have to hold on to your stick no matter what. I am pretty confident this series will go 7 games.CAPS up in the series 2-0, but that is par for the course. Both games were in DC. The CANES need to hold serve at home.
