IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : HURRICANES (5) VS CAPITALS (2) 4/22/19

FOEGELE (13) – Has been on fire for the entire series. He scored the first goal of the night to tie up the game at 1-1 at the time. It was shot on a spin-o-rama type play, so that always makes things cooler.

STAAL (11) – Scored a sick goal in the 3rd to put the CANES up 3-2 at the time. His strong net-front presence all game also lead to the 1st goal by FOEGELE. STAAL didn’t stop there, he also had an assist on the WILLIAMS goal.

CANIAC NATION – Was in full force tonight, giving the CANES all the love in the world. The arena was so loud the players could barely hear the refs whistles.

AHO (20) – Is slowly heating up a bit. He had a beauty of an assist on the TERAVAINEN goal.

McGINN (23) –Had an assist on the STAAL goal in the 3rd.

I’M TRYING – To watch this Stars / Preds game tonight and I am starting to fall asleep. #mediocrehockey

WILLIAMS (14) – Is pretty clutch. He scored the 4th goal for the CANES making it 4-2 at the time.

MAENALANEN (8) – Got tripped from behind in the 3rd and landed flat on his back. The refs rightly called a penalty on the play, but it was such a dangerous penalty, it could have been a lot worse for MAENALANEN.

10 YEARS – About the amount of time it probably feels like the ISLANDERS have been waiting to play the winner of this series.

TERAVAINEN (86) – Scored the 2nd goal of the game for the CANES to tie it up 2-2 at the time. Him and AHO accounted for like a gagillion goals for the CANES during the regular season.

McDONALDS CAN’T SERVE BEER IN A McKEGG (42) -  Because that name is already taken.

MARTINOOK (48) – He has such a big impact on this team. Being at home definitely gave the CANES confidence tonight, but MARTINOOK is all character. He had an assist on the 5th goal.

PESCE (22) – Has a bit of a mean streak at times. He had an assist on the WILLIAMS goal in the 3rd.

ALL EYES ON ME – If I have to hear that jingle again I am going to puke.

HAMILTON GET YOUR TICKETS NOW (19) -  Sent the goodnight goal into the back of an empty net in the 3rd. The score was 5-2 CANES at the time. His one mistake on the CAPS second goal allowed Ovechkin to get by him and score the CAPS second goal. Those kinds of mistakes can not happen in game 7.

NIEDERREITER (21) – Was definitely in on most of the offensive puck movement tonight, but did not have much to show for it.

BROWN (36) – 2 shots, 3 hits on the night.

WALLMARK (71) – Just one shot tonight. Not his best night.

FAULK (27) – Had an assist, was a + 3 on the ice with 3 hits. Nice productive night for him with tons of effort.

DeHAAN (44) – Lead the team in hits with 5.

SLAVIN (74) – Really good night for him. 3 hits and an assist on the FOEGELE goal.

MRAZEK (34) – This wasn’t the game he had in Game 4, but it was enough to bury the CAPS tonight. The CAPS had a controversial overturned goal when he was basically sitting on the puck for a bit in the blue paint and the CAPS hit his pads to knock the puck in the net. So far this year I have rarely rarely seen that called a goal so on this one the refs made the right call. It would have made the game 3-3 at the time but the CANES put in another 2 goals after that, so crying for CAPS fans is all for not.

WRAP UP – There was a big change in this game 6. It was the first game in the series that the first team to score did not win. Maybe we get a change in the next game. Maybe game 7 is the game the home team doesn’t win? The whole team needs to play with actual energy on Wednesday night. Another Game 5 effort is not going to cut it.
