IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (1) VS MAPLE LEAFS (3)
11/18/19
CAPSULE : On Monday night while the Coyotes were stomping the
Kings, there was an incident where this happened... "The refs were trying
to break it up," Hathaway said, "And it felt like there was a couple
sucker punches thrown and I got there one quick and then reacted a little
emotionally and unfortunately spit came out of my mouth after I got sucker
punched and it went on to him.” Hathaway plays for the Ducks and when you watch
that replay, it definitely looks like he intentionally spit on one of the Caps
players. I know crazy stuff can happen in a fight like this, but spitting. Come
on dude. This isn't the 3rd grade. The Caps won that game 5 to 2 which helps
out the Coyotes. Okay on to this game. Normally this would be your typical Coyotes,
Leafs fight to the death but because the Leafs coach just got fired, it feels
the eyes of the entire league on are this game tonight. Tocchet knows the Leafs
will be coming out with a lot of "juice" to quote him and
"urgency". The Leafs are 0-5-1 in their past 6 games which makes them
dangerous as heck.
DVORAK (18) – Ended up with an assist. Him and Hinostroza
were all about not quitting. You have to give them that.
SCHMALTZ (8) – I didn’t see him make any bad plays, but he
is usually the guy with the puck a lot for the Coyotes in the offensive zone,
tonight he seemed like he never had it.
GARLAND (83) – Led all forwards in shots on goal. A rare
rough game overall for him though.
CROUSE (67) – Had a decent breakaway in the 1st
period with 2 Leafs players trailing him and couldn’t quite get a shot
off. Thought there might be a penalty
called on the play, but there was nothing to call as Holl never completely
grabbed hold of his jersey.
SODERBERG (34) – Probably his worst game of the season.
THE BOOK – Kind of wondering if the book on Anderson (the
Leafs goalie) is to shoot low glove side, because everyone was trying that
early.
KESSEL (81) – Just happened to be on the ice when all 3 of
the Leafs goals were scored. Having said that, none of the goals were scored because
of something he did or did not do.
HAYTON (29) – Looked out-matched all night. I would love to
see him get going, but it just hasn’t happened to this point.
FLAME OUT – The Flames have scored just 3 goals in their past
5 games. I am not a Flames fan, I just noticed they got shut out again tonight
and decided to take a look at how things were going for them.
STEPAN (21) – Had a chance on one of our Power Plays, but
because the Kings are the only team we can score a Power Play goal on, that
didn’t work out for him.
KELLER (9) – Had 3 shots and 2 hits, but it kinda felt like
he wasn’t a factor in this one. Like one of the people at your work that you
don’t know their name…because they never say anything and you are not quite
sure why they work there.
APPARENTLY – The dream of the 90’s is alive in Portland.
FISCHER (36) – Must not have been impressing the coaching
staff. He had the least amount of time on the ice of any of the forwards.
TOYOTATHON – Sounds more like a toy sale than a car sale.
RICHARDSON (15) – Still waiting for a big game from him. It’s
not that he’s playing bad, but he’s been a little off so far this year.
HINOSTROZA (13) – Had a goal in the 3rd period
with about 14 seconds left in the game to make it 3-1. Not a terrible game for
him, but at least he got everyone 3 tacos tomorrow at Taco Bell if you buy a
medium drink.
OEL (23) - Had at
least 2 passes in the 2nd period that went to nowhere. Not the
planet in Guardians Of The Galaxy, but literally nowhere there was an actual
Coyotes player. Late in the 2nd period the Leafs scored their second
goal on a short-handed goal, where the Leafs player out-raced OEL to the net
and put it past Kuemper. In the 3rd period he gave it up to a Leafs
player in the defensive zone and the Leafs scored their third goal making it
3-0 at the time. It was a rare bad game for him.
DEMERS (55) – Lead the team in shots with 3 after the 1st
period. This probably had something to do with how well the Leafs defense
played in the 1st period.
They allowed a lot of shots, but most were from the outside at bad angles.
CHYCHRUN (6) – A rare night where he was getting thrown
around like a rag-doll. Some of those times he hit the ice ended up in blocks.
So there was a plus to that I guess.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Tied Chychrun for the “better take your
shot from somewhere else contest” with 5 blocks.
NESS (42) – Had a couple rare bad passes out of the zone and
a blocked shot in the 2nd. Normally when he takes a shot, he’s way
to open to have it blocked.
OESTERLE (82) – One of the few Coyotes tonight that had a
pretty good game.
KUEMPER (35) – Toronto’s goal in the 1st period
should have been one Kuemper had, but it’s hard to get on a guy who shut out NHL
teams for around 102 minutes straight. He did allow 3 goals, but could have
used some goal support tonight and that didn’t pan out.
WRAP UP – The Coyotes have had a habit this year of losing
to teams that are coming in struggling. This was one of those games where I
thought the set up might be there. The Maple Leafs last win was a long time ago
and they just got a new coach. That almost always means that team is going to
play hard. The Coyotes not getting tape to tape passes and losing most of the
battles during the game didn’t help matters either. The Coyotes finish the night 13-8-2 second place in the Pacific Division.
