IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (2) VS WILD (3) 11/14/19

CAPSULE : "So we probably ticked them off a little bit so they're playing pretty  good hockey coming in here, so we have to be ready for that." -- Wild coach Bruce Boudreau I think the Coyotes played down to both Columbus and the Wild and one of those games I was at. The Coyotes are playing their 3 game in 4 nights. I can't even down 3 Mountain Dew's in 4 nights these days. The Coyotes come into tonight at 11-6-2. The Wild are 6-11-2. I am  kind of hoping that Bourdreu forgets how good Zuccarello is in the faceoff circle and puts in guys that suck at it. Zuccarello currently wins 8 out of every 10 face-off's he takes.

DVORAK (18) – Had 3 pretty solid shots on net. Solid of course meaning that they didn't necessarily go in, but they were smart plays.

SCHMALTZ (8) – Took a beautiful pass from the Wild goalie and put it right to Garland who put it in the net. That isn’t the first time this week another team has passed it right to a Coyote and that Coyote put it right in the net or passed it once and that guy put it in the net.

KESSEL (81) – Had a really nice shot in the 2nd that hit the crossbar. Later in the 3rd he had an assist that Crouse scored on. He did seem frustrated during parts of this game which is good, because this team needs him engaged and producing. Not a bad night for him.

RATT OUT OF THE KELLER (9) – 3 Goals and 2 assists in his last 7 games before tonight.

STEPAN (21) – Had a shot on net with 2.4 to go off the face-off and almost put it in the net. You don’t even see that attempted very often.
GARLAND (83) – I told you the other night. He is just here to score goals and make goalies re-think their careers. His only shot in the 1st two periods was a goal.

$3.00 – What it cost if you wanted to buy a puck at the first Coyotes game I want to in 1996.

THEY HAYTON – For fans asking why he hasn’t been on the ice. In 9 games he averaged a 1 minute in the box per game (twice the penalties of any other forward when comparing apples to apples) and only put 1 puck in the net. I am not trying to pick on the kid, but outside of maybe Fisher? I can’t see another forward you would want out of the line-up based on production.

GRABNER (40) -  Not a good night for him. That is pretty freakin rare for this dude. So we are going to call this is “three headed dragon” game. You don’t see three headed dragon’s often, and it’s not often Grabner seems to not be on the ice at all.

RICHARDSON (15) – Had a really nice defensive penalty in the 2nd period that might have saved a goal as he snuck in and covered a gap between Raanta and the goal pipe.
ROUGH – In the first period Hartman of the Wild had just 2 less shots (6) than our entire team (8).

HAM AND CHEESE HINOSTROZA (13) – 2 shots and 2 hits is probably a frustrating night for him.

FOX 910 AM > ARIZONA SPORTS 98.7 FM – Except when Cowherd is on, whoever he is. That dude puts me to sleep. This station is basically what would happen if 98.7 knew anything about hockey at all.

CROUSE (67) – Had an early breakaway but couldn’t get enough on the puck to get it past the Wild net-minder. I like the term “net-minder”. It sounds like an 80’s B-Movie title. He went out in the 2nd with some sort of leg related lower body injury, but came back out pretty quickly.  In the 3rd he scored a goal that appeared to go right through Dubnyk like he was made out of ectoplasm or something.  That goal tied the game up at 2-2 at the time.

SODERBERG (34) – Probably was responsible for the Wild goal in the 1st period. Demers was tied up with his man and Soderberg was way late even attempting to get to Fiala who put the puck past Raanta on his second shot right in front of the net.

FISCHER (36) – 2 shots on net. Not much else going on for him this evening.

MEANINGLESS STAT – The Coyotes are 7-0 prior to tonight when scoring a Power Play goal. Strangely they are also un-defeated when scoring more goals than the other team.

OEL (23) – Had a pretty weak penalty called on him in the 3rd period. The Wild scored in like 6 seconds on their PP on that one. All this happened after the Coyotes had a terrible PP of their own. Outside of that one play, OEL had another very good night. He also had an assist on the Crouse goal.

CON-DEMERS (55) – Next to Ness, he had the least amount of ice time tonight for the Defensemen.

SECRETLY – Wants Shane Doan to come decorate his living room.

CHYCHRUN (6) – Pretty good game for him. He had 3 shot, a hit and a block. He also logged the most ice time of any player on the ice.

GRG  – Greasy Road Goal.  – New acronym from the announcers.  Tyson said it on the broadcast and Matt knew exactly what letters that each word started with were.  This isn’t poking fun at them, I LOVE our announcers.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Seems to have been the only player that didn’t get the “don’t put the Wild on the Power Play” memo in the first 2 periods. He had the teams only 2 penalties through the first 2 periods. Outside of that Goligoski was his usual solid self except for a pass in the 3rd that almost lead to a goal.

EMPTY-NESS (42) – Another night where he didn’t hurt the team, but didn’t do anything noteworthy either.

OESTERLE (82) – Got landed on after falling in our net in the 1st period. Not too un-common, but  him laughing about it was pretty great.

RAANTA (32) – It doesn’t look like his socks quite go high enough on the back of his ankle. Just say that on a weird camera angle. I will say this again in a few sentences, but this loss was not on him.

WRAP UP – You can tell the team is pissed about this loss tonight. It was a crazy task taking on 2 top teams in the league then a 3rd team in 4 nights. Having said this the Coyotes lost on a bad bounce in this one. None of the goals scored tonight can be blamed on Raanta. Now the team comes home for a good little while with 5 of their next 6 games at home. This will also be a good test because the team has been a lot better on the road this year than at home.
