IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (3) VS OILERS (2) (OT) 11/4/19
CAPSULE : Oilers goalie Mike Smith (who used to be our
goalie), was one of the NHL's 3 stars of the week for the week ending Nov. 3rd.
He's been allowing about a goal a game lately, but he won't be playing tonight,
he's just the measuring stick that Kosikinan has to live up to that could be
great for the Coyotes or it could be a total freakin disaster. The Oilers lead
the Pacific Division (our current residence on the NHL standing chart) with a
record of 10-4-1. Having said all that Darcy Kuemper for the Coyotes has a
better season goals against that everyone in the league but Tuukka Rask and a
save percentage of .942 with more time on
the ice than Rask. The Coyotes came into this game 8-4-1.
1-1 – Both teams scored on their first shot of the game.
Nuts I tell you…absolutely nuts.
HAYTON PUCKS AND TAKEN NAMES(29) – Hayton had one pass in the 3rd
period that went directly to an Oilers player and lead to an Edmonton
breakaway. Fortunately Kuemper was up to the task. It does look like him and
Kessel really have some good chemistry on the ice which should be huge as the
season moves along.
GRABNER SELVES A GOAL (40) - Grabner scored on the Coyotes
first shot of the game after stealing the puck from an Oilers player and taking
it down the ice himself. It was a very early response to an even earlier goal
by the Oilers in the first 2 minutes of the game.
STEPAN OUT ON THE ICE (21) – Not a lot of great passes on
his part tonight, but he showed up in OT and he buried the game winner. I know
he gets some fan flack, but I would rather have a clutch guy like him than a
heck of a lot of other players out there.
HINOSTROZA (13) – I am a big fan of his, but he looks like
he’s trying just a bit too hard which is leading to bad decisions. Like trying
to drive into the Oilers zone by himself, with 19 Oilers players, the team
hamster, a couple hundred fans, the Zamboni, an ice skating spider and Dave
Tippett all standing on the ice in front of him.
NOT A KELLER NIGHT (9) – 1 shot on goal. A lot of this game
he seemed out matched. This isn’t a nightly thing, but it seemed like he was
off.
SCHMALTZ (8) – Has great hockey sense and just put a perfect
pass to Stepan in OT that lead to the win. He also registered the Coyotes only
assist of the game. The Coyotes first 2 goals were “assist-less”.
NOT JUDY GARLAND (83) – I am pretty sure Garland shot a
couple pucks on net before he left Phoenix. He lead the team in shots with 3
after the 1st period, but he always looks like he’s taking 100 a
period.
ROGERS PLACE – Is a pretty awesome looking arena.
NOT A CREATURE WAS STIRRING NOT EVEN A CROUSE(67) - No shots on net, but he did have 3 hits and
was annoying the crap out of the Oilers all night, so we will take that.
THEY DRINK SO MUCH SODA, WE STARTED CALLING THAT PLACE
SODERBURG (34) – Apparently had enough in the 2nd period and decided
to steal a puck, then drive the net from the blue line and just put the puck in
the net. This is why we got this dude.
TRUST THE GORDON'S FISCHER-MAN (36) – Not a ton of ice time
tonight. No hits, no blocks, no shots.
OEL NOW OPENING FOR ELO (23) – His effort tonight was over
the top. Lots of sticks in the passing lanes and really nice control in the
offensive zone slowing things down to get plays set up.
CAMEL HAT – Oh, never
mind, it’s camo hat. For the November 9th. I was hoping for a camel
hat…or like a moose hat.
DEMERS SOME NICE SKATES (55) – Very solid night on defense.
He quietly had 3 blocks.
CHYCHRUN (6) – Was
all over Connor McDavid tonight with the exception of the 1st goal
of the game.
SHUT THE DVORAK BEFORE YOU LEAVE (18) – Decent night. Like a
lot of the team seemed like he was all over the puck.
GOAL-IGOSKI (33) – Pretty decent night. 2 blocks, 2 shots and a
pretty good amount of time on the ice.
THE KESSEL RUN IN LESS THAN 12 PARSECS (81) – 1 Shot on the
night. Not one of his better games, but he’s been solid all year.
BLESS THIS NESS (42) – I can’t say I have watched him much
this year, but he definitely didn’t hurt us out there and seemed to compliment
the rest of the effort.
OESTERLE (82) – Took a huge hit from Kassion to the head in
the 3rd. Not good for a player coming back from a concussion
already.
KUEMPER (35) – Stood on his head as per freakin usual. What
a stellar game when needed from Darcy.
WRAP UP - The Coyotes record would almost say they should be higher in the standings, but 3rd in the Pacific because Vancouver and Edmonton are being annoying right now. It would have been nice to get the win in regulation but the Coyotes were out-played in the 3rd. The best thing for them to do right now is just go home and sleep because they have a game tomorrow.

Glad to see you back at it!!
