IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (3) VS FLAMES (4) OT  11/5/19

CAPSULE : Mark Spector was apparently in need of some attention, so of course I had to respond. In an article today he stated that the Coyotes were "boring". This is an excerpt from the article
"The Coyotes work hard, which might be entertainment enough when you’re spending $20 for a hockey ticket, a hotdog and a beer in the desert. But at Canadian prices, watching the Coyotes roll through your town and squeeze the excitement out of the game like a bartender squeezing  a lemon is, quite plainly, a ripoff." I find this whole thing hysterical especially in the sense  that the Coyotes had 2 goals last night off steals taking the puck to the net and putting it past the Oilers goalie in fact all 3 of the Coyotes goals were more exciting than Edmonton missing the net 758 times last night. The article comes across as bitter. Maybe bitter that the Coyotes have a really solid defense most nights, and they are not just going to step out of the way for other team’s skill guys. Sorry Mark, that isn't hockey. The article on Sportsnet just goes on a tirade about how the Coyotes are just so boring but fails to mention where all the bitterness is coming from. Going into tonight’s game the Coyotes are 9-4-1. The Flames are 8-7-2 coming in.

HAYTON IT WHEN WRITERS CALL US BORING (29) – Had a delay of game penalty in the 2nd, and a tripping penalty in the 3rd that cost the team a goal. Hayton has 4 pts in the 7 games he’s played.  He did have a few close up shots tonight that didn’t get on net.

LAST NIGHT A BLACK CAT – Got into the end-zone on Monday Night Football. Let that sink in.

DVORAK (18)  – Put a goal in the net in the 2nd after a terrible power play on the part of the Coyotes. The tip in was off of a sort of shot pass from Kessel.  He also hit the Flames goalie right in the mind in the 3rd period almost burying his 2nd goal of the night. He lead the team in shots on goal for the night with 5.

KESSEL BAKED POTATO CHIPS  (81) – Had a beautiful pass to Dvorak in the 2nd in front of the net and he put in in. That assist brings Kessel into the Top 4 in assists on the team. He was also dog tired on that OT goal by the Flames after his line was out there for what seemed like forever.

9 – The number of all girl hockey teams in AZ. I can’t say how much I freakin love that.  Soooo freakin epic.

KELLER GOAL (9)  -  Rocked the water bottle on his goal, after getting a nice pass from Schmaltz in the 1st. It is nice to see him get on the board with a goal. His production has been good, but he’s a goal scorer we need getting it done.  He was not having any of Todd Walsh’s knocking on his game during the 1st intermission interview. “We’re winning games, let’s talk about that!” – Keller.

ALL SIZES BIG & SCHMALTZ (8) – Had an awesome assist in the first and a nice block late in the 1st. He did look a bit shaken up on the play though. As the night wore on, it was clear he was fine, lots of sticks on pucks in the D zone, which I am pretty sure annoyed the crap out of the Flames.

GARLAND (83) - Had an assist after 2 periods, but you would like to see him get more than 2 shots on net in that same time frame.

GRABNER THAT FOR ME, I'M TOO SHORT TO REACH IT (40) – Had a very solid night all night, it’s hard to imagine how good it would have been, if Stepan had found him on a few breakaways where they had numbers.

STEPAN (21) -  Seems to have forgotten how to break away in this game. He was part of not 1 but 2 short-handed breakaways with another Coyote in tow and failed to score, once not even hitting the net. Both times they could have picked a movie, and watched it before any Flamers players would have caught them.

HINOSTROZA (13) -  Had a breakaway in the 3rd, put a shot on net, it didn’t go, he kept in the play and ripped one passed the Flames tender for his first goal of the season. I hope this dude gets going, because he is one of those players that can catch fire. It also makes sense that he seemed to have a lot more energy than most everyone on the ice tonight. His ice time was pretty freakin low. Unfortunately he missed a wide open net in the 3rd that would have been the game winner.

DON'T STEP ON THE CROUSE-TRAP (67) -  Not a lot on the stat sheet tonight. He ended up with just 1 block, 0 shots on net and 0 hits.

SODERBERG (34) – Committed a penalty in the 2nd that lead to the Flames 1st goal in the 2nd period.

PP – Looked pretty freakin terrible tonight. Unfortunately Keller was a big part of the problem on a few of them sending more of his passes to the Flames than to our players. You can’t go 0-5 and expect to win many games.

FISCHER OF MEN (36) – Defensively pretty solid with 3 blocks. Except for the part when the whole team stopped playing in the 3rd and allowed the Flames back into the game.

GRAND EKMAN-LARSSON-Y (23) -  Robbed Reider of the Flames of a great chance at a goal in the 3rd, but committed a penalty on the play. Fortunately that that penalty did not lead to a Flames goal.

CREATE A DEMERS-ION (55) - Demers scored the Flames 3rd goal for them on a tip in past Raanta. It was the Flames 2nd goal in the last 3 minutes of the game, sending it into overtime.

CHYCHURN (6) – Left shortly into the 2nd period, but was able to make a return about half way into the period. On the Coyotes last PP of the 2nd period, he hit the post on a shot that would have given the Coyotes a 2 goal lead at the time. Even with the time he missed, this dude lead the team in shots with 4 after 2 periods.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Usually has solid nights, but tonight was really solid. He logged more ice time than any other player and showed up on the stat sheet in just about every category.

WHAT THE HECK – The Ford Rangers in this commercial are squealing like horses.

NESS-IE IS REAL (42) – A lot like last night. Nothing specular, nothing terrible either.

LYUBUSHKIN  (46) – Just an okay night with 10 minutes on the ice. Kinda gotta wonder if Tocchet is losing faith in him, since he didn’t even play last night.

THIS IS RAANTA !!!!! (32) – I think he needs a few more A’s in his last name. For almost 3 periods he stood on his head, but our defense let him get peppered late in the 3rd and it ended up costing us the game. As good as Raanta was in most of this one, this is two rough games in a row for him now. Both loses.

WRAP UP : You have to capitalize on opportunities and play a full 60 minute game each night out. This is a game the Coyotes should have won by 3 or 4 goals. Instead it’s an overtime loss.
