IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (0) VS PENGUINS (2) 12/6/19
CAPSULE : The Coyotes are going against another team that has been pretty lights-out on home ice. The Penguins have gone 7-0-2 in their last 9 home games. In fact, the last time they lost at home in regulation was on October 19th. Yeah…that is freakin forever ago. The Coyotes have had a rough time of it in the land of steel, not winning in regulation in Pittsburg since 2015. It will be the first for a few things tonight. It’s the first time the Coyotes have gone up against Galchenyuk (who was part of the trade last year for Kessel) and the 1st time Kessel has faced the Penguins, his former team.
SODERBERG (34) – This was a very good game out of him. Just 1 shot, but he was 63% in the face-off circle and he had the puck quite a bit in the offensive zone setting up plays.
STEPAN (21) – This is his 700th NHL game. Tonight he had 1 shot on goal,2 hits a block, and a chicken gyro with french fries. No wait. That last part was me.
YOU DON’T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DVORAK SIDE (18) – Had two shots on goal and 3 hits. Just a ton of energy for him tonight, so I really don’t have any issues with his game.
SCHMALTZ (8) – Another guy who had a rough night. Mostly because he just wasn’t given any time or pace. Not because he was making mistakes.
EPIC SNOW BALL FIGHT - That Sprint commercial with the snow ball fight was pretty legit. I am goig to work on my Mad Max snowball fight machine right after this game.
GARLAND (83) – He had 3 shots and 2 hits in this one. Late in the game, him and Keller were all over the Penguins, they just couldn’t score.
CROUSE (67) – Hit the post on a shot late in the 1st on a rebound from a Kessel shot.
KESSEL (81) – Through 2 periods aside from not scoring, his best 13 + minutes on the ice of the season.
GRABNER (40) – Had one breakaway that kinda broke down, but didn’t have his usual speed tonight.
INTERESTING - TYSON is standing in front of a giant tube during the 2nd intermission….is that…is that normal? Oh…now it’s after the game and both him and Matt are standing in front of the giant tube. What’s that all about? They don’t have a better spot to put these guys?
KELLER (9) – Spent the 1st 2 periods getting tossed around like a rag doll. One of those times he was jammed
into the ice and it put the Coyotes on a Power Play. Keller had two great chances in the 3rd and put it over the net both times. Late in the 3rd on the Power Play Keller did get robbed by a great save from the Penguins goalie. He had at least 3 really good shots in the 3rd period alone. He finished the game with 5 shots (the most n the team) but couldn’t get one past the Penguins goalie.
FISCHER (36) – Had by far the lowest amount of ice time of any of the forwards after 2 periods with just over 7 minutes.
HINOSTROZA (13) – Got called for a delay of game in the 2nd period. 19 seconds later OEL got called for cross checking and the Penguins got of long 5 on 3 Power Play. The Penguins hit a few posts but the Penalty Kill held them off. It’s also very likely Hinostroza is drinking a lot more coffee than any other player on the ice, because once again in a back to back, he just looks like he’s getting shot out of a canon. Just buzzin around….
RICHARDSON (15) – He’s had issues producing all season, but outside of the face-off circle most night it’s been a tough road. Tonight was another one of those nights.
OEL (23) – Missed the final 2:23 of last night’s game after being checked against the boards in the 3rd period. In this one he hit the pipe in the 3rd with a really nice shot attempt.
DEMERS SOME ZOMBIES WE NEED TO TAKE OUT (55) – I really like Demers. He looks like the dude you want guarding your compound during a zombie apocalypse.
CHYCHRUN (6) – Actually tied the lead the defense in shots with 4. 3 of those were taken in the 1st period.
GOLIGOSKI (33) – Had probably the roughest 2nd period I have seen him have all year. He did get a shot on net in the game but coughed up pucks left and right as the period moved along.
LYUBUSHKIN (46) – Had 2 hits and a block. Very solid night for him overall.
OESTERLE (82) – He did get 2 shots on net and that is good. What wasn’t good was the number of times he put shots on net that either got blocked or completely missed.
RAANTA (32) – If the Coyotes had won, it would have been because he stood on his head. Instead he stood on his head only giving up 1 fluky goal and ended up with the loss.
WRAP UP – This was a really sold game from the Coyotes but the Penguins goalie was just too much. Also gotta give credit to the Penguins Defense that swarmed the Coyotes in the offensive zone on rebounds off shots all night. Overall it was a good trip for the Coyotes. The Coyotes are 17-10-4 with 38 pts. On the bright side after a tough loss, is that it took quiet a lot longer for the Coyotes to get to 10 loses this year than I think most anticipated. This team is for real, in case that wasn’t already clear.
