IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (1) VS DEVILS (2)  12/14/19

CAPSULE : Taylor Hall is scratched again for precautionary reasons. Meaning that he won’t have a chance to impress Coyotes fans live. Needless to say, I am pretty done with the trade rumors of him coming here. Right now Taylor Hall has 6 goals on the season. The Devils are 9-17-5 and come in on a lot of Power Rankings at dead last. Kuemper will be in net for the Coyotes and is coming into this game having never beaten the Devils. The Coyotes are once again 1st place in the Pacific Division with a record of 19-11-4.
GOAL-IGOSKI (33) – Had a sick Power Play goal in the 1st period glove side on a pass from Hinostroza. It is very strange to me how good the Coyotes power play suddenly got in the past several games recently.

OESTERLE (82) – Looked very solid tonight even getting some offensive opportunities. Deep into the 2nd, he had 3 shots on net.

STEPAN (21) –  Uggh…just a terrible game from him.

DVORAK (18) –  2 shots on net and not much else going on.

SCHMALTZ (8) –  Had a really good chance to put a puck in the net on a late Power Play in the 3rd but passed it to Goligoski who couldn’t get a stick on it.

GARLAND (83) –  Got his helmet knocked off and was thrown against the boards. For some reason no penalty was called. He was pretty much absent most of this game.

CROUSE (67) – Had some good energy tonight with 4 shots, but he was one of only a few players that seemed interested in playing tonight.

BRATT - Took me awhile to figure out that the name on this New Jersey players uniform wasn’t a reference to his attitude.

KESSEL (81) – Rough night for him.

GRABNER (40) – Rough night for him , just 1 shot on net.

SHOCK - If I walked into the Toyotathon and saw Elves putting my car together. Speaking of Elves, in the AHL the San Antonio Rampage, dressed up as Elves the other night. At least I think they were Elves.

RICHARDSON (15) –  Pretty bad night for him, both of the Devils goals were scored with him on the ice and he was only able to register one shot on goal.

KELLER (9) –Has 10 points in his last 11 games. The team to this point has been 14-3-2 when Keller has a goal or an assist. Pretty nuts. Tonight after 2 periods he had 4 shots on net to lead all forwards in that department. 1 of those was on a nice steal that he almost buried 5 hole. He has been looking better lately offensively but took a pretty bad penalty in the 3rd.

FISCHER (36) –  2 shots on goal. One of the few Coyotes that actually had a solid night overall.

HINOSTROZA (13) – Had the lone assist on the Goligoski goal in the 1st period. That goal tied the game at 1-1 at the time.

OEL (23) – Took a lot more shots tonight than usual. Can’t say he wasn’t at least trying to get the team going. After 2 periods, OEL was tied for the lead in shots with 4.

NESS (42) – Is becoming more and more noticeable on night’s he plays. In this game he was getting up into the offensive play more, but I do feel at times, he is too quick to pass.

SODERBERG (34) – Didn’t have a shot on goal. Or do anything else.

CHYCHRUN (6) –  Had 3 blocks, but it was not one of his better nights.

LYUBUSHKIN (46) –   Along with Goligoski was one of the most physical of all the Coyotes tonight.

KUEMPER (35) – Can’t dump this loss on him, but as I mentioned earlier, he’s never beaten the Devils, so that would have been probably enough for me to try something else if I was Tocchet.

EXTERNAL ICE - The Flames went down in Flames to the Hurricanes today 4-0. This is good for the Coyotes because the Flames are also in the Pacific. The Flames are 18-13-4 with 40 points. The Oilers also participated in the “lets just loose tonight” program going down to the Maple Leafs 4-1. The Oilers are now 18-13-4 also with 40 points.

WRAP UP –  Probably the worst game the Coyotes have played all year. They looked extremely tired and flat, and that got them a loss to the worst team in the NHL tonight. They have 2 days to think about what they’ve done. In those 2 days the only team that can catch them for 1st in the Pacific Division is the Oilers, but the Stars are not just going to hand them that game on Monday night. I know it’s early to be talking about the playoff race, but you probably know by now that I don’t care. The Coyotes need to get this one out of their system asap. This is also another Saturday game in the Kachina jersey's that the Coyotes lost. I am not saying it's a trend...I'm just saying it's a trend. My next blog will likely be some time after December 20th. This is a crazy busy time of year for me, hence the missed games lately.
