IT CAME FROM OUT OF THE ICE : COYOTES (5) VS WILD (8)  12/19/19

CAPSULE : He’s fast and she’s weird.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Had an assist on the Chychrun goal in the 2nd . He later had another assist on the Keller goal, but was probably responsible for the Wild’s 6th goal just letting a Wild player skate by him after having good position.

DVORAK (18) –  Basically made the first goal happen just out of hustle and being a warrior behind the opposing net. He put the pass to Hall and Hall passed it to Kessel who squeaked it past Dubnyk to make the score 1-0 after 1.

SCHMALTZ (8) – Had an assist on the Chychrun goal in the 2nd .  He then had 2 assists tin the 3rd period on on the 2nd Chychrun goal and 1 on the Keller goal.

FISCHER (36)  –  It seemed like every time he was on the ice the Wild scored a goal. Just a really rough one for him.

CROUSE (67) – Had 3 shots on net and was one of the forwards that played very well.

KESSEL (81) – Missed the puck on a hard pass from Hall in the 1st. The Wild had good coverage, so it may have not been a goal, but it just shows he’s going to have to get used to the way Hall plays. Apparently he got used to it in like 5 minutes, because tonight he scored a goal on an assist from Hall in the 1st. It was Kessel’s 8th goal of the year.

GRABNER (40) – Just 1 shot on net and almost nothing else going on. Along with Richardson and Fischer he ended the night with a -4. That doesn’t always tell the story, but tonight it did.

GARLAND - Is out day to day.

HALL (91) - Had an assist in the 1st period. He also led the team in shots with 3 after 1 period.

ARBY’S IS OUT OF CONTROL - How do they think I am supposed to resist the Arbynator. Darn you Arby’s darn you.

RICHARDSON (15) –  One of the worst games I have seen him play in awhile. I love Richardson, but his game offensive and even at times defensively has really struggled as of late.

KELLER (9) – Made the scored 5-6 Wild lead in the 3rd with a great shot through traffic. It was Keller’s 8th goal of the season.
8 - The number of goals the Coyotes gave up in the 2nd period and 3rd period. By way of comparison, it s very rare that they ever even give up 4 goals in an entire game. I can’t remember the last time the Coyotes had a touchdown and a 2 point conversion scored on them.

HINOSTROZA (13) – Just okay night for him, but only 1 shot on net in a game like this, is not what you would expect.

POWER PLAY - The Coyotes Power Play is currently the 13th best in the league. That is pretty good after how badly the Power Play was to start the year.

OEL (23) – Scored in the 3rd period with a killer shot on the Power Play. The OEL we have seen the past 2 games is the OEL that I remember from the start of his career. A great night for the captain, just not on the score board.

NESS (42) – Got embarrassed in the 2nd period with a Wild player going right by him to put a puck past Kuemper.  One of the rare times I have seen Ness get beat outright. Overall it was one of his worst night’s as a Coyote.

SODERBERG (34) – Good night for him with an assist and 3 shots on net.

CHYCHRUN (6) –  Put a call into the US Air Defense because he put a missile past the Wild net-minder in the 2nd to tie the game 2-2 at the time. The goal was scored on the Power Play which I mentioned earlier has been doing quite well lately. Chychrun is d-man on the 2nd Power Play unit making this even more of a cool thing.  That wouldn’t be all though. He tied the game up at 4-4 at one point in the 3rd with a shot that was almost identical to the goal he scored in the 2nd.

LYUBUSHKIN (46) – A really rough night for him.

OESTERLE (82) –  Had a couple of nice shots on net, but overall a really rough night for him.

STEPAN  (21) –  Hard to complain about any of the forwards on 5 goal night, but 3 of the goals were from the defencemen. Overall Stephan had a solid night.

KUEMPER (35) –  Should have had that 2nd goal by the Wild. I feel like he was cheating off the post just a bit too much.  A few of the other goals snuck by him, but others were routine saves he just completely blew it on. Definitely his worst game as a Coyote ever. To top it off he left the ice late in the 3rd after making a routine save. As of this time I am not sure what the extent of the injury is.

EXTERNAL ICE - Just looking at the West leaders, the Stars came back from 2 goals down to beat the Lightning in OT. It’s crazy how little swagger Tampa has this year compared to last year. Dallas currently has a 20-12-4 record and are the 3rd best team in the West. Carolina told the Avs to settle the heck down beating them 3-1. Calgary lost in OT, so they are now 18-14-5 with 41 points.

WRAP UP –  This was one of the craziest games of the year for the Coyotes, but allowing 8 goals is just very uncharacteristic after 2 days off. The team is for some reason really bad a home. That will have to get fixed if they want to get out of November in 1st place in the Pacific.  If the Coyotes have lost Kuemper for any significant amount of time (and looking at how pissed he was being helped off the ice, he might be) it really means it was a good idea to not trade Raanta away. They also have a really good back up to their 1b goalie in Adin Hill.  At the time I am writing this the Knights and Canucks are tied late in the 3rd. If the Knights lose or lose in OT, they will not take the 1st spot in the Pacific tonight.
