HALL (91) -  Scored on the 1st shot of the game. The score came from about 10 feet out on a nice assist by Keller.  Hall also had an assist on the Soderberg goal and put about 1,000 shots on net tonight.

LYUBUSHKIN (46) – Committed a bad penalty in the 1st period that lead to a Calgary goal. That goal tied the game up at 1-1 at the time.

GARLAND (83)    Had a really good opportunity with a puck bouncing off both posts in the 2nd period, but couldn’t quite put it in. On that play however, it’s likely a goal would not have counted because Garland was in behind the goalie and it’s very likely interference would have been called. Garland has had a few quiet games in a row. Garland did seem to get it going a bit in the 2nd period. In the 3rd Garland was going for  a puck in front of the net and ended up hitting the goal in the head knocking his mask off. Both players were okay.

SODERBERG (34) – Is apparently a monster of a man. He also scored in the 2nd period just punching the puck in on a great effort. The goal made the score 2-3 Coyotes trailing at the time.

UP ALL NIGHT – I like to stay up the latest on Friday nights and Sunday nights. Because, I am like…”this Sunday will end over my dead body!!!”

DVORAK (18)   Had a pretty good effort late in the 1st and almost scored with just his mind. He also had a pretty crafty shot on net in the 2nd, but probably didn’t put enough mustard on that one.

GOLIGOSKI (33) – Took a strange penalty in the 2nd period getting called for a delay of game because he put his hand over the puck on the ice. I get that this is a penalty, what I don’t get is why he bothered doing it. He had already stopped the puck from getting deep into our zone.

KESSEL (81)  Had 3 shots in the 1st period. Probably his fastest start in the last 20 games.

SCHMALTZ (8) – Took a really dumb hooking penalty late in the 2nd period that killed the Coyotes Power Play. In the 3rd period he had a really good play on net but put the puck just an inch wide missing the net 5 hole.

HAYTON (29)  Got destroyed by a referee after inadvertently slamming into him. He was clearly hurt, but came right back into the game after a brief break.

TYSON – “Turn the brain off, go to work”. His advice when the Coyotes were trailing 3-1 in the 2nd period.

HINOSTROZA (13) – Had a nice little spin-o-rama move in the 2nd period, but couldn’t score.

OEL (23) – Had an assist on the Soderberg goal.

CROUSE (67) – 3 hits tonight, but I would rather have seen him get some shots on net.

STEPAN (21) – Not much going on for him tonight, but it wasn’t a bad game out of him.

OESTERLE (82) – Probably one of his worst 1st periods ever.

KELLER (9) – Had the assist on the Hall goal.

RICHARDSON (15)   I liked Richardson’s game tonight, but his efforts don’t show up on the score sheet.

HJALMARSSON (4)  This was a pretty good game for him, I just wasn’t crazy about the penalty.

DEMERS (55) – Had 2 hits and a shot on goal. I didn’t dislike his game.

KUEMPER (35)  I was a little surprised he got the start. He had a good game, but good games don’t win this time of year. I think I would have liked to see him take a full week off. Having said that, as I have said before, I think Tocchett knows what he’s doing.

EXTERNAL ICE Chicago (1) vs Detroit (1). The Chicago loss helped the Coyotes in the sense that the Blackhawks were on a 4 game win streak prior to this and sneaking up on the playoff pack.

Jets (4) vs Golden Knights (0). Probably didn’t help us out. The Jets are now 2 points ahead of the Coyotes but that also keeps the Coyotes just 8 points back of 1st place in the Western Playoff standings. It’s possible Vegas may be finally starting to run out of gas.

WRAP UP  The Coyotes needed a Vancouver like 3rd period tonight and didn’t get it. Lapses defensively will kill you any in game. This time of year, the points are so huge, you just can’t afford to not get them. The Coyotes might be able to lose 3 more games this season and still get in. Having said that the window is starting to narrow. This whole situation is eerily similar to last year.
